New SS Turbo heatshield

Check this out!

I needed to keep the heat from the turbo away from my RE0880 so I made up this cover. Looks good too, made of polished stainless steel. You need to drill and tap three #8-32 holes in the non-critical flange area of the compressor housing. I think I can have these stamped out for about $15. Will work great with BHAF too.

Let me know what you guys think.

Looks nice Larry. Should do a good job with the heat too, especially after shutdown.

Only problem I see is a brand new urination confrontation about just how a guy should go about drilling and tapping the compressor housing

Just kidding Larry.

Its good to see more innovation... . all the rest of the heat shields mount around the filter... this one goes around the turbo... good idea.

One question. . do you worry that it traps heat around the turbo?? I would think trapping heat around the turbo would be bad. That I would have to drill holes in my turbo. . yikes. . I can't even drill staight holes in wood. .

Not at all. There is plenty of room for heat to escape. Most aircraft have their turbo completely wrapped with insulation. Almost all the heat goes out the exhaust during cooldown anyway.

The mounting holes in the shield make a good guide for drilling and they don't need to be perfectly straight anyway.

I like it!

That looks good Larry :) I wonder if it will fit a WH-1 Holset the HX-35's older brother. I know that they are close, may be I'll take some measurements. I like the idea, it is good for guys like me who cannot afford Jet Hot :D

Thanks,

Russell

Could you make something like that to cover the manifold too? I think that would be pretty sharp.

Larry, I went to Gig Harbor in November for my brother's funeral, beautiful around there!

I think I can!

I just went out a scetched out somthing I think will work. I'll bend up a prototype and post some pictures. Maybe this week sometime.

Gig Harbor is beautyful but very wet this time of year. :(

Sounds great! I'm already itching to send a money order:D

Honestly, I would be interested in both items if you do decide to produce them.

Add me as well.

To heck with the turbo, I'll hang it from the rear view mirror it looks so cool.

I have a dumb question. . Would this contain the heat from the turbo causing it to be that much hotter? I thought that air moving around the turbo would help cool it down...

Rick

It doesn't actually enclose the turbo. It's still open on the bottom, back, and engine side for plenty of airflow and convection cooling. It mainly shields the air cleaner area from direct infrared heat. Oh, and looks really cool too.
