WTBurke: Welcome to the TDR! I lived in Paradise for a few years while getting edu-ma-cated at Chico State. My grandparents lived there for almost 25 years. Wonderful place to live. It is aptly named :)

I'm going to Butte in January in my new 01 CTD 2500 fully loaded including heated leather.

Sorry, as the material comes polished thats the only choice. Nice thing about stainless is you could bead/sand blast it or wire brush it to a satin finish and it won't rust.

"containing" the heat around the turbo isn't a problem, its a stationary engine stuck in a truck so air flow isn't going to affect the turbo one bit. The small amount of heat radiated from the turbo won't affect EGT if thats what you're after. You could shield/blanket the whole system if you want, won't affect EGT enough to notice. Actually the turbo would be more efficient without heat loss up to the turbo, after, doesn't matter.

Me too!

How is the E-Man prototype comming along?

FWIW, Chevy did something similar to this on the '62-'66 Corvairs with the turbo option. It was used to protect the spare tire that was mounted directly above (inches away) the exhaust housing! Looked somewhat like a bullet. It was a double layer affair with an inner and outer housing, about . 5" of air between the two...

I built the first one the other day. It looks promising but not quite right yet. I need to make some changes and build another one a little longer. It's a little more complicated than the turbo cover but I'm a workin on it!

You drill and tap on the mounting flange of the aluminum compressor housing (see photo). You can use the turbo shield for a guide. It will only fit one way.

add me! :) (As long as it fits a 2001 ETH, I know the turbos are different between manuals and autos but dont know if it is just pin wheels or housings)

OK, put me on the list as well. By the way, did you have to use a right-angle drill to get to that area of the turbo (Santa Claus, are you listening?), or did you pull the turbo to drill and tap the holes?

Nope, used a regular Makita. Had to pull the filter and hose though. Took me all of about 15 min to do the whole install.
