At only 31K, I was getting an occasional clunk from the front end when turning from lock to lock while stopped or at low speed. Got a call from my local dealership service department and informed that they would be replacing the steering box (leaking) and track bar (worn). Ball joints checked out OK.

1. Are these common failures?

2. Is there any preventive maintenance I should be doing to extend the life on the new parts?

Both items are not high volume failures but they do happen. My steering gear was mis-adjusted at the factory (loose) and started leaking after a couple of thousand miles.

Theres no maintainance that would have kept either failure from happening.

My gear box was replaced on my 05 DRW 4x4 6 speed at 20,000 miles---it would not return to center--it happened slowly--thought I was loosing my mind. I had to drive with 2 hands---Rocky
