Hahahhaha That is freakin funny. Mixing cement. I have had many aftermarket external pumps including race cars and none of them have been quiet. Even Holley, Aeromotive, Walbro their all loud to some degree but they do the job. If noise is a factor then build a box around it and install a couple of heat extracting 12v fans and the noise will be a thing of the past.

Actually, a mechanical pump is easier, quieter, cheaper, and more reliable.

Fass

I bought my FASS a year or so ago, always been very loud. Last week it got quieter and later burned up the relay. Replaced it then it blew 2 fuses. It did this 600 miles from home while pulling a 36' 5er. Found a dealer to check it out, Dave's Diesel in Muncie, Idiana. They said it was pulling too much current. The motor was on it's way out . They called FASS and since I didn't send my warranty paperwork in, I had to buy a new pump and motor assembly. After 4 1/2 hours and $500, they got me back on the road. I'm not a happy camper since I bought the FASS after 2 stock lift pumps, and the FASS didn't last as long as stock ones did !!! I have an '03 HO auto with exhaust, cold air intake, edge juice with attitude. I pull campers all over the USA and I don't know whether to have much faith in this new pump and motor.

Anyone have any ideas on reliability of my FASS??

I've got well over 100k on mine... FWIW. That's on one of the first versions with the internal (i. e. non-replaceable) brushes...

I bought a FASS for reliability, noise is not a concern as long as I keep rolling down the highway... just one way to look at it.

I've had my FASS for 60K -70K miles now and I've had a couple problems :

Water entered through the brush caps during the winter and froze it up pretty good. I think they have updated to eliminate this issue. Unit started blowing fuses, I called Piers and he said to check for water - I took it off and called him back and said 'no water - what's next?' He said "what's next is I send you a replacement till we get it figured out" Well it sat in the warm on the kitchen table for a little while and the water appeared. I felt like a real numbnut - he already had a good used unit on it's way.

Next problem was I put the fuse down by the frame rail and it got moisture in it and caused problems - I filled the little fuse container with dielectric grease and fixed that. I would suggest wiring fuse at battery for safety and this moisture issue.

Both problems were identified by a good mechanical gauge - keep an eye on it - at least when you first start it up. A good driver will scan the gauges regularly anyway.

Even with the few problems, I have to say that if I manufactured this unit myself I would be very satisfied. It's a hell of a product - all products have some issues and those are the people you hear from - satisfied customers like myself are silent.

Most important - who you buy your stuff from - don't sell yourself out to the lowest price guy - be loyal to your vendor and make sure you hook up with someone like Piers who cuts the crap, extends himself for his customers and doesn't pass the buck. I know Piers is not at PDR anymore but I would assume the company is run the same. I have made all my mods a long time ago so I haven't bought much lately.

Lowfly,You need to clarify (High Performance fuel pump) if Fass market their Pumps for (recommend off road use) complaints would be minimized , also all the frame mounted Pumps are subject to road debris, I have seen those units completely frozen with Ice and road chemicals. In MN the temps may drop -0 daily for Dec/Jan, What is FASS standard for their High Performance Pumps in -0 temps and mandatory Bio-Diesel? Clear #2?

Well we have some very exciting news about what we have been working on the past few months. We have had a breakthrough with our R&D. We have found a way to lower pump noise up to 11 decibels from our testing. Our fuel pumps are consistently much quieter. For Example: Brads truck. He has a 2006 Dodge 3500. With the engine off and the windows down sitting in the cab, you can not hear the FASS running. So you can imagine with the engine running, the pump can’t be heard at all.

Granted, most of the pumps we released were quiet. We have seen some of you wish that your pumps were a bit quieter. We have listened and now have a program to reduce the noise. Here are the details:

For those with a seal on your pump (Lead seal and wire between the two horizontal motor bolts on the HPFP base or T-Block assembly of the FASS System. We have record of what pumps have seals and what pumps do not. ), you will need to send in your upper half of your pump for the update if it is a FASS. The unit does not need to be removed from the truck to remove the T-Block portion. HPFP's can be sent in as is. We do not want seals to be broken by anyone outside of our shop. If this happens, warranty will be void on that unit. We understand that this is an inconvenience (This is one of the reasons why we adjusted our warranty policy that is discussed later in this post) and this update will not cost anything but the initial shipping to send it to us. We will do what is necessary to make sure your pump is quieter when it is returned. We will run full tests to ensure a healthy pump. What we will need to accompany the pump is the following information:

-Serial Number of pump

-Name

-Correct Return Address (No P. O. Boxes)

-Put Number 2007-10,000 on outside of box

Please send in the full HPFP, with no fittings and mounting brackets installed.

-

We only need the upper half of the FASS system to be sent in.

-

This is the portion directly above the water separator that bolts to the filter base. It’s held on by 4 vertical (Up and Down) bolts, not the 4 horizontal (Left to Right) bolts with the seal! Removed this portion and send in to us for the update.

For those without the seals on the pump, we give you two options. You can send in your pump like above or purchase an update kit for $15. 00. This includes everything needed to update the pump in about 30-45 minutes. The order will be processed and an update kit will be drop shipped directly to you. Very simple. Instructions will have more details about tools needed and what’s involved. What you will need to do is send in a $15. 00 Check or money order to:

Diesel Performance Products

ATTN: Noise Update #2007-10,000

16240 Hwy O, Suite B

Marthasville, MO 63357

Include the following information:

-Serial Number of pump

-Name

-Correct Return Address (No P. O. Boxes)

Lastly, we are so confident in the changes we have made to improve the FASS/HPFP in the past year that we have decided to increase the warranty from 4 years to 6 years!! But this is not for just the new units being released or units being updated. This will be back dated to pump sold to July 2005. The serial number brakes are as follows:

95 Series FASS System: - ALL

150 Series FASS Systems: - Serial Numbers Back to 5,000

HPFP Models: - Serial Numbers Back to 1,000

We understand there are other options for fuel pumps on the market and appreciate your loyalty to our product. We are constantly improving and refining our pump to be the best on the market. This program and warranty upgrade is a way to say thanks for sticking with us. Here's to a New Year!

I know this is a little old, but I did send in my info and money for the parts for the upgraded pump over 1. 5 months ago. I got one call from you guys but have not received my parts. I was wondering if there is anyone I could get a hold of to speed this up. I understand things can get misplaced or forgotten. Just want to see what we can do to get this ball rollin.

Thanks...
