I just picked up my new tuner last night and went to program it and I did everything by the book. When I went to tune vehicle it does what its supposed to and then says no VIN or incorrect application... Says its for a 98 1/2 - 02 Dodge Cummins Trucks. Superchips happens to be closed on weekends so I thought maybe someone here knows whats goin on. .

Also there has not been another tuner (that I know of) programed on this truck.

TIA

Derek

Mine worked fine, start out with on Performance tow,50HP. Last time I recalibrated the tires, I changed to Max Performance.

In still not as strong as the Comp on 1x3 or 1x5.

tuner

Derek, does it say on the tuner display that it is VIN locked?? If so then someone has programed another truck with it and will not work on yours with out sending it to Superchips first to clear the stored VIN. Another thing is if the software is newer in your ECM than in the Superchips tuner, it won't work either. Either way it should come up with an error message on the tuner when you first plug it in. Give them a call, they are real nice in the customer service dept. Hope this helps. gary

Thanks for the info Gary. The tuner is brand new. I have no idea what has been done to the truck before I got it. I guess I will see what Superchips has to say tomorrow. .

try again

the superchips "runs home to momma" and that "Vin Locked" seems to be a default message if it can't find any other reason it failed.

Mine did it twice, but on the third time it worked.

Now, it works every time, but on each occassion when I initially plug it in, it will always bark " vin locked" but then proceeds on.

There is the case where it won't work on certain ECMs as the directions state. If that is the case, you will have to return it for a software update. Your's may have been on the shelf for a while.

I did notice my initial difficulties were a loose connector on the device end.

Right now I have mine on lowest setting. I used to run it on highest setting and the truck is very responsive and nimble and smooth running on that setting. It will blow black smoke if romped on running pretty rich.

middle setting seems to be the most "strained" feeling/setting.

Well I called Superchips today. . Its a faulty programmer, I guess about a year ago there was a bad batch of about 300 made and the tech said they thought they got most of them but guess what one I got. . lol Really nice to work with. He said just return it for a new one.
