NEW Survey software - help us test

Attention: TDR Forum Junkies
To the point: Click this link and check out the Front Page News story(ies) where we are tracking the introduction of the 2025 Ram HD trucks.

Thanks, TDR Staff

clocks off

Have you come across a word that isn't in the spell checker?

Who woulda thunk it... ... . 100% again more people own 2001 models than any other year model... ... That suprises me.....

We filled it out twice--once for our 96 and once for our 97.

Couple of comments. Is Southern California West or Southwest? And the power question... had to think about that because I think of power in torque, but I assumed the question wanted horsePOWER.

Just an observation... . not a flame.

I would... ... . (but id have to have alot more cash to throw around):D :D :D Oo.

Here's yet another case of me having something to say and not being able to get it across clearly...

It's not just the cash factor... . it's having to deal with the law when they can't see your truck from all the soot your blowing when they're trying to pull you over! :D

Deo (therabbittree) got pulled over for excessive smoke... . the officer asked if Deo thought anything was wrong with the truck. His reply was: "No, it smokes a little when I go up hills... . "

The officer then said: "Don't you think the smoke is a little excessive when I can't even see your truck - except for inbetween shifts?!"

True story.

Only about 4% of the membership has responded so far. Maybe putting a 'Sticky' note at the top of each forum would help.

I also have a problem as to what region I'm in. Is Texas South, Central, or South-West??? I guess it could be any of the three depending on what part of Texas you live in.

I send this. I bought my '03 specifically for the diesel and like my old '01 Tundra much better as a truck. I wish there was a way to express that in this poll.

About the y2k owners....

in our de-fence, the y2k's ARE Limited Editions. Only made from Aug to Dec then they made the y2k's +1. Therefor, those that bought the "early" 2001' (w/o rear disks) probably would have a y2k, 'cept for the model change.

just another 0. 015$, frm u know who (if not-----

Results

Isn't there any one doing this poll any more? Or is it that the results page hasn't been updated? It has been showing 582 respondents for a long time now.

Can't believe I'm the only one here driving an 89.

Those are just preliminary results on some of the questions that we put up to give you an idea of the kind of data we're going to be able to pull from it, etc - they are not live results. As of today there are now 1137 responses to the poll. I have to edit some of the results manually because of how we put the poll together and delete others because they don't make any sense. That's the main reason we did this poll - to learn the nuances of the software. When we close down the poll I will post the final results. BTW - there is 1 other person who has responded that owns an '89 ;) .

survey

Hey Steve,

The survey is a good start. Maybe one or two more questions about how everybody uses their truck; towing boats, cabover campers, motorcycles, work truck for construction jobs, etc. I would have been interested to see how most people actually use their fairly expensive investment. And, maybe a question on annual maintenance costs.

Steve,

I agree that usage would be a nice thing to poll. The problem would be trying to come up with enough check boxes for all the different uses. The "Other" box could get checked a lot. Percentages of different uses could also be obtained. My 2000 truck, for example, has about 17% towing (RV), 3% towing (flatbed), 3% commuting, 77% running empty for other uses (grocery shopping, buying accessories and parts, etc. ).

When I did the poll, I also tried to decide which truck to list. I own two. Until your comment on it, I would have assumed that a member could only take the poll once.

Questions 4 & 5 ask for mileage. I assumed you wanted fuel mileage, not miles on the truck (towing vs. empty).

The location question is obviously vague. I am not the only one who thought a while before answering. How about just listing all the states? For California, you may want to list Northern and Southern, since they are so different from each other.

Is this really all the information you want to get from a membership poll? Other questions I can think of are:

- Do you do your own maintenance? All/Some/None

- The question regarding maintenance asked which procedures the owner did the preceeding year. Do you want to know who does these procedures, but perhaps just not last year?

- I would get more specific about accessories and ask about satisfaction with the various brands and types.

- A big item for me would be reliability data. Do you want to ask about failures. My 1995 had an injection pump fail. It was covered under warranty. If it had been out of warranty, this would have been a really BIG deal. As it was, it was still a major nuisance. My 2000 truck had a lift pump fail, also under warranty. The bottom of one door on the 1995 rusted through. The door was replaced under the corrosion warranty.

- I would add many questions to get members experiences with warranty and service issues. For example: "Has your truck ever been out of service for a mechanical problem? How long? Was it covered by the warranty? Was the problem resolved to your satisfaction?

I've tried to say this before but evidently didn't get the point across very well. This poll was never meant to be an end all be all of what we wanted to know from the members. This was brand new software that we installed and had never used. The entire point of this poll was for us to do a test poll, see how the software worked, how the results would come out, etc. We were trying out the different styles of questions we could ask, how to format the answers, etc. We've found a lot of good things from doing it that will be used in the future. For example, other fields are nearly useless as are text fields. On the towing mileage question for example there have been 118 different responses including (0, 0. 0, 00, 000, 0000, 1, 10000, 10000. 00, etc). On the color question there are about 150 different responses with at least 120 of them having only one response. This was the kind of stuff we were looking to learn.

In the intro to the poll we stated:

We have located a survey package that we believe will satisfy our needs. But, before we spend too much time customizing the software, we thought a "test" survey would be appropriate. Long term, we plan to use this tool to gauge your interest in new products/services, check how we are doing with the website as well as magazine, ask for direction, etc.

As long as we're surveying you, we thought it would be fun to compile some of the data the members ask about (i. e. favorite truck color, favorite transmission, etc. ). We can finally determine (statistically, that is) what truck configuration/look is really the most popular.

The following survey is being used as a "test" only. We would appreciate your taking a few minutes to complete this survey for us. We'll share the results of the survey with you as soon as possible.
