You know this forum gets addicting!!!

My question is, I've got a '92 ram 350 w/auto and 105k.

I'm going to be pulling my 26' 5er ( 8k lbs. ) and I'm reading all of these stories about the trannys going to the graveyard, I know now I should've gotten a manual but the wife doesn't know how to drive a stick. ( easier on the driveline and marriage :-{} than teaching one how to drive a stick this late in the game! ). I'm thinking of replacing the tc and vb with one from DTT. Would there be any consequences of doing this without rebuilding the transmission? And what are the pro's & con's about using aw32 instead of atf?

Thanks for all the help,

Ron

tc & valvebody

Ron,

I would advise calling Bill at DTT and ask him. While you are at it, call Don or Clint at ATS and Dave Goerend too. These guys all know the ins and outs of your transmission and will give you advice you can 'take to the bank'. Any of these mods will make a tremendous difference. I like mine (ATS triple lock & valve body) so well I have even quit whining about wanting the manual transmission!

I haven't quit whining - just not about that... ... ... ... ... . more gages, more toys, bigger pole barn

rfitzgarrald,

I have a similar trailer (see sig).

Bill Kondolay advised me get a *new* A518 from Chrysler, then have him modify the new VB and send me an 89% TC. He made it clear that the newer 518's had reliability mods the originals did not.

For various reasons, including a dying stock TC, I went whole hog as shown in the sig.

The purpose of this note is mainly to say that this combination works very well with trailers our size. ATS is regarded well, also.

Note that a trans temp gage is a *requirement* if you're going to be towing anything our size. An under-the bed transmission oil cooler helps hold down the heat. It's all too easy to fry an expensive transmission.

As "phoekema" advised, please talk to the experts with regard to the rebuilding and how that relates to modifying the VB.

DTT's advice to me was very similar... ' drive what you got till it drops, then get a new A518 (1st Gen) and we go from there'

I couldn't wait, and glad I didn't too. It is sweet. .

Bob.
