"New" 2006 Ram 2500 HO CTD

Hello everyone,

I just purchased a 2007 2500 with the 5. 9L CTD:D. The truck appears to be in great shape and drives very well. I was a little nervous about picking up a rig with 34K miles on it, but so far so good. I have changed all the fluids and filters, treated the rust on the under carriage and cleaned the interior and exterior to my satisfaction (dealership never cleaned it throughly enough for my eye). Thanks to all of you for allowing me to snoop around the forum. Your wisdom and experience helped me pick this truck. Any tips and advice regarding this truck would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

GCP

Welcome to TDR GCP. You made an excellent purchase and came to an excellent forum. You'll get much good advice here and maybe some not so good advice. Sounds like you're very particular about you truck and that's a good sign. Do you tow an RV or other trailer? Tell us what you will use your truck for.

Thanks Grizzly. Glad to be here. You live in the ABQ area to? I will use my truck for hauling around my work gear (motion picture equipment) and towing the family boat around the southwest. My father has had a Dodge CTD for years for the same purposes, but I can finally pitch-in with the boat haul.

I didn't realize that you live in Albuquerque also. Small world. I'm in the far north valley. Rio Grande and Alameda near the river. Glad your aboard.

34k is nothing... I'd rather have one with 75k than brand new... cheaper and don't have to wait for the engine to break in and the fuel mileage to come up!

Congrats on your CTD, I too have a 5. 9 07 that I upgraded from my 03. Currently I have 40K on my truck and its just starting to get broke in. Did you get the auto or manual?

Welcome

GCP, Good for you making smart pick on last of the 5. 9's.

'06's & '07's are culmination of an excellent engineering run.

Tho' some, for good solid reasons, prefer early 3rd gen 305/555's, '06's & '07's have the fullest electronics pkg for both engine and transmission control, especially for towing and exhaust brake, best handling, best brakes.

Best early upgrade is FRANZ oil filtration bypass system to remove carbon/soot from oil. There's other oil bypass systems besides FRANZ.

Learn to use this website SEARCH function. FRANZ Bypass and/or Black oil re oil bypass filtration issues.

There's more information in the ARCHIVES than what most any person has time to read and most all of it's pretty good.

Also if you don't know for sure when transmission oil & filter was last changed, maybe never, then that's a good service to do, also well described in the archives.

Many in the know recomend avoiding transmission shop flush machines as do I since they can introduce lots of crud from their flushing unit.

Get the maint. CD. www.techauthority.com. CD# 81-370-07059CD. $120. Best money you'll ever spend on your truck.

About a year or more ago some kind soul put up a free link for that CD and a BUNCH of members (I don't know just who... ,) claimed to have downloaded it for free before that link got removed.

Even spending the money, it's well worth it.

Performance upgrades take way way deeper pockets than what you'd initially think.

Don't worry honey, I'll pull it out just before... ,
