I need a couple of new tires and wouldn't mind staying with Michelins. What do you need for them and where are you located (thinking about shipping costs)

Chris:

Here are a couple pics of my 06 MC with Nitto 295/70/17 on stock rims. Tires ride and handle great, only have 3000 miles so can't really give any long term experience.

They ride good!. They don't hold a candle on the dry compared to the stockers as far as handling! Infact, they are easier to break lose when you really roll into the go peddle.

The stock michelins absolutely suck in snow and any sort of slop.

Yep, if it stays perfectly dry, they make these trucks handle suprisingly well. I got about 48,000 miles outa mine. They were BALD! :) But then again I drive like a nut :)

Jason, have you ever driven the BFG TA's and how do the nitto's compare?

Chris:

I've always been a Goodyear guy, 37inch MTR on my Jeep and 305x70x16 ATS on my previous chevys and like them a lot. However, as we all know the 17inch rim size causes us pain in large tire selections. I really wanted a 33inch tire with the 4. 10 ratio since this is what I've been running for years and this combo works great for way I use the truck. The Nitto 295's are a hair over 33inches and really fill out the fender well nicely.

Be careful in comparing the stock Mich. or any stock tire for that matter to larger tires of any brand. Any smaller tire will usually drive better than a larger tire since they have less mass, usually less sidwall etc.

Pro Comp has a new load range E tire:

Xtreme All Terrain

Someone on here said they bought a set in the 305/65/17 size, but it's not listed on the site.

They are directional, but I don't know if that really affects wear or not.

Both my friends liked their factory Michelins a lot. Over 90k each and bought more with never a beep about a issue in the wet. In fact one said several times FIRST new anything he bought that HAD a decent tire on it from the factory. Maybe its drivers also. One of those guys bought a new 05 dually 4x4 with the RWL Generals. Said I bet these DON"T hold up. Well as of last week he has 62k towing and they LOOK good. He'll get 75k out of those.

Agree on dry flat road the michelins are fine. Problem here is snow+ice+hills+gravel/dirt roads and those michelins just spin. Need bigger teeth on my tires

SATURDAY! SATurday! Saturday! I shall post pic's of my new Toyo O/C MT's 35/12. 5. 17's on stock rims... They are some of the best tires I have ever used! I got them for on-road winter use, but their so dang smooth on the road, I _MAY_ keep them year round.

Well I am waiting in anticipation to see those photo's of the Toyo's, I am looking at them with the chase system. Let us know how they ride on/off road please. Oo.

Bought the truck in Billings in January '03... Michelins were terrible in wet or snow and a lot of axel hop when you stomped on it in the dry. At 5K miles I went to 315 X 70 X 17 BFG AT... eliminated the axel hop and great traction in snow, OK off road except for mud. 50# front, 40 # rear running empty, 50/50#s with load. Rotated every 6K miles I have 62K miles on them right now and they have warm evenly and still have 6 - 10 K miles in them, at least. I have scored 6 H2 wheels and 6 brand new 315 X 70 X 17 BFG's off a Hummer H2. With 6 tires in the rotation pattern, instead of just 4, I hope to get 100K off this set. BTW, they do rub a little at full lock but not bad. The H2 wheels are a little wider with what looks like the same offset so they may rub even less.

The only down side is the BFG's are load range 'D' so wouldn't be a first choice if doing a lot of towing... I don't tow often and the softer ride of the 'D's is appreciated.
