New Tires, now truck wanders

I put on a new set of tires on Saturday. Pathfinder Load range E. Pulling a trailer it felt like it was wandering all over the road. With my worn out junk tires it was perfect. Any thoughts ?

It happens a lot. Sometimes it's just tread wander... new tread too tall to be stiff. My 19. 5" Mich tires too about 15K to lose that feeling. They also followed the groves on the road a lot more. I put Mastercrafts on my last truck and noticed the same thing. Give it a little time and it'll go away. Shouldn't take too long on regular tires.

My truck feels like this everytime I put a new set of tires on it. I'm not sure how long it takes to wear some tread down, or how long it takes to just get used to it.

Right now its freaking me out. I almost pulled off the road and stopped.

Back in '69 I had a dodge that wandered when I had an 11' camper on it. The dealer had no answer for the problem.

One time before loading I measured from the front bumper to the ground, loaded then remeasured. The camper raised the front 2 inches. So I lowered the tire pressure in the front and the problem was solved.

Im not sure what kind of tire pressures you are running. In my experience with medium duty vehicles with 19. 5's if the pressure is too high-- 75-85 lbs the vehicle will wander for the first 1-2k miles if you lower the pressure 10-15 psi all is good and after the "break-in/wear-in" all is good and the pressure can be set back up. Note this is with 14ply 245 70r 19. 5 tires not loaded near their max capacity always consider tire pressure load carrying capacity of tire and axle weights before lowering pressures. BE SAFE.

Pathfinder=house brand.

Pathfinder's are Discount's house brand. I'd ask them to exchange them for some Michelin's or other premium tire.

Had same problem a while ago

The tires were aired up to max psi by the youngster at the tire shop... I lowered them and it straighened right out.



Hopefully thats all it is.

Sometimes I forget to lower the rear air pressure after towing the fiver with my 98. It drives like the front end is worn out. Dropping the air pressure to 60-65 in the rear solves the problem every time.

my dually was spooky with fresh meats on the rear till i got them worn down a little, dropped about 1200# of lumber on it and it felt pretty good on the way home, after a couple thousand miles they were pretty good when they were no longer running on the center couple tread blocks

Like stated above put a couple thousand miles on them and you want

even notice it.
