I just got 6 Firestone Destination M/T's put on my truck. They are awesome in anything. Haven't really needed to use 4 wheel drive in mud or snow. There was one time where I wanted to try it out though, so I purposely got stuck in 2wd. ;) I'll attach a bad pic, can't really see the tread because the tires are dirty.

They don't look like 255's but rather 235's Could be waay off base here. I am looking for an alternative to my 255/85 BFG's. My MT's have a tendancy to wear rapidly once a bad pattern starts. It seems to be the nature of the tire. ALL of them (And I have had 12 sets of them in all) seem to go into self destruct mode once a bat wear pattern shows its ugly head. so @ their new 165 a shot I am thinking another viable aternative that is not the same tire mold. . . Which Firestone has.

Yup, those are just the 235/85R16's. I think by the time everything was said and done, I paid $900 to take the old ones of, get them put on, and put one of the old tires on the new spare rim which was $58. 50. They give you a good feeling when you go through mud and snow, especially mud. You go through the mud and if something slows you down, the truck labors for a few seconds, then all of a sudden something happens with the tires and the truck pulls ahead. I don't know what it is, if they clean so good or what, but these tires rock. I've gone through wet snow banks and mud together with the snow up aways on the tires (possibly up aways on the air dam or bumper), through water and mud in the gravel pits just idling through it, and through fields after the snow melted, just can't get stuck.

I've also had experience with BFG AT's and Regul Trailblazer MT's. They were alright. The BFG AT's had problems with unequal wear, leaks, and punctures. The Regul MT's were a decent tire while they lasted, definately look tougher than the BFG AT's. I also had some 31x10. 5x15 Bridgestone Dueler MT's on my 94 ZR2 and they were pretty good as well. I felt they wore a little faster than I had expected them to do. They were probably my best tire that I had on the truck. Also in some situations on MMR's (Minimum Maintenance Roads) I felt that I didn't have enough power. It had the 4. 3 CPI HO Vortec and factory 3. 73 LSD but the one time I went down the muddy road and I could barely keep speed up. The truck was constantly slowing down and the back end was slowly going from one side of the road to the other, it was pretty scary. Sometimes at the beginning it even shifted back a gear when I stomped on the pedal but it didn't help to increase the speed. Kinda strange, the road was only muddy on the top 1" or so but it was really slick and pulled me down and back and forth. I think I actually only had two of the Dueler MT's on at one time. Back when I bought the Regul's I bought two and ran them in the back with the BFG AT's in the front. Then the AT's wore down so I put the Regul MT's in the front and bought the Dueler MT's for the back. Then the Regul's wore down so I bought Dueler AT's and put them in the front. All in around 43k miles. Then I sold the truck shortly after I put the Dueler AT's on due to the fact that it started being very unreliable. I think I had the truck in the shop for a month and a half at one time, all for the fact that there was a bad wire to the fuel injector unit or something like that. Talk about bad technician's. Should have just hooked up the scanner and checked the Pulse Width Modulation. :-laf

ToolMan,

I went to the Tirerack and they only show BFG MT's and Dunlop Mud Rovers for MT's in your size. Possible to switch to a different size?

Here's a pic of the ZR2:

:{ :{ *sniffle* I I I caann't :{ :{ (Well I could but I like them for that RPM savings LOL excuses excuses)

Now I'm starting to see the reason for the poor wear, don't take offence but I can see you're probably a little abusive;) . I got 36k out of the BFG MT's on the front of my truck because of a bad wheel bearing, the back ones still have lots of life in them at 42k. On my old 3/4 ton I would get a solid 50k out of each set (BFG MT's) with religious rotating. I too have the 255/85's because I've got 4. 10 gears so I need whatever help I can get driving 25-30k miles a year. Nice looking tires you have there though, keep us informed on how they wear.

Let's just say I had a lot of experiences in/with that truck, some good and some bad. ;) I was just posing for the camera that day, so that's why I went at it hardcore. I have to agree, I was tough on the truck and tires though. After all, there's a reason why they make the ZR2 offroad package. :D

It's totally different with this truck. For one, it costs more and is worth more. Also I can appreciate it more because it's a big truck capable of doing a lot. I spent a long time today under the truck knocking and scraping all of the mud off that i've collected this spring. It wasn't a lot of mud, just hard, compacted, and in hard places to reach. Boy was I a mess after I crawled out from under my truck. Looked like I had grown a new mustache. :p Also took my nerf bars off because the mounts were bent down to far from the previous owner. IMO, the truck looks a lot better without the nerfs, at least the way they were on my truck before. I think they were too black for the truck too, so it made them look dull and out of place. One of these days I have to get my truck washed though. I pressure washed it yesterday and it looks a lot better, but it desperately needs a soaping, polishing, and waxing. Hasn't been soaped since last year.

I found that receipt from the tire shop. My tires and labor were $840 and my wheel was $60, plus the $58. 50 tax, making a total of $958. 50. Not terrible IMO. If I would have gotten the tires from the Tirerack, it would have been $833 including shipping but before mounting and balancing. So I don't think I got that bad of a deal if you think about it. Been contemplating about taking these off till it snows and putting my old Big O's back on. They only had 3/32 of tread depth, but they were runable and I hate to wear these down before it snows. :(

tires are on......

tires are on and lookin good!

no rubbing or touching. look sweet. nothing like the feeling of new sneakers on your ride! hopefully they last. i'll put pic's in readers rig's if i can figure it out... ... james:D

I like your ass end! :D :-laf

What's with the truck in the sig? '04. 5 2500? Am I missing something? What year truck is the one in the pictures? Cool truck!

its a 1999.

thanks on the cool. . the truck in the sig is my wife's new 600. i bought it for her so we could keep the miles off the dually(99,000). it's also a big tax right-off being a farmer. we get diesel delivered to the farm for $1. 20 a gallon! with all the hype of the increase in fuel costs i thought it was a smart move to get another diesel. i gotta admit though... it's a real sweet truck! i still wish to be buried in my dually but i don't mind crusin' around in her ride:D ... . james
