I need to get some new tires on my 3rd gen 3500 dually and was wondering what tires ya'll have had good experiences with as far as tread life goes and what not... Thanks
The hardest part is finding them in the size we have. I changed mine about 7,000 mile ago because my Goodyears were all cracking at the sidewalls (all six on the ground had cracks 1/2" long all the way around).
There's a thread in this forum on available tires for theses trucks. I went to the General AmeriTrac TR's ($900 for 6). Looked at the Mastercrafts, Coopers, and Goodyears - all were $1000-$1300 per set of 6. Michelin and Firestone now make tires in this size, too.
The other problem is spotty availability - if you need them soon, I'd start shopping now. I had to wait 28 days for my tires.
As for the General's, I am OK with them so far - they seemed a little squirlly at first, but now I don't notice it. I think it was just that I have tread on them again (the Goodyears were 70% worn). The traction is good, but I haven't wintered on them yet.
I will probably go to 19. 5's next time around, but the cost is like $4000 with tires and wheels!
