Time for new tires, I was thinking about the Good Year silent armor tires . has any one had any expereince with them?

Thanks in advance. ______________ John

no experience with Goodyear lately but in the past they lasted just like the name says Good for a Year. I put 70k on my last set of Michelins. :-laf

I had good luck with my Good Year Wranglers RT oem tires (67,000 miles) but the Wrangler ATs I got less miles on them though they had plenty of traction (44,000 miles).

I on my second set of Michelin LTX M/S 265 they ride/handle good and have enough traction for what I use my truck for plus decent wear.

you might get some of the info you asked about in the review section on the "tire rack" web site.

I was going to buy a set of those last fall, but there were none around.

I bought a set to replace my original Michelins in December 2007. The Michelins were fantastic - good grip even in snow/ice, wore like iron, and got great mileage. But I was looking for a more aggressive snow/ice tread pattern, and I really liked the look of the Goodyears. It was a toss up between Goodyears and M55's. I've always had really bad luck with American made tires but decided to take a chance. I had them siped and have Balance Masters. That winter the tires seemed to be very good on ice and snow.

I noticed a constant vibration in the shift lever and by "the seat of the pants". It wasn't bad, but more noticeable on long trips. The next summer I was coming back from MT, it was hot and I was driving fast. The vibration was really starting to be irritating. I stopped in Cle Elum for fuel and looked at the rear tires. The tread had deformed - the sipes had slipped relative to each other but only on the rear - drive wheels. The front tires looked normal. I drove directly to Discount Tire and showed them what was going on. They griped a bit, but asked me what I wanted to do - I told them new tires. Hats off to Discount, they replaced with new - NOT siped this time - tires immediately.

Because I had balance masters, I thought that the tread deformation was causing the vibration - it wasn't that the overall wheel assembly was unbalanced, just the tread was causing the problem. But the new tires still had vibration. I rotated the tires after about 5k miles and the vibration was gone. Not sure why. I 'm about due for another roatation so hopefully it wont' show up again because of a bad tire in rotation.

Mileage is not as good as with the Michelins, but I don't know how much to blame the tires for - I added a UTE bumper and I think the switch to low sulfur fuel during the same time frame may also be to blame. If I had to do it over again - would probably go with M55's or Michelins.

I have them on my 94. I got them last summer, drove from Nashville, TN to Missoula, MT and back with them. I'm due for my second rotation. I have no problems with them, they ride nicely and they are quiet. They replaced the Toyo Open Country A/Ts that were on there when I bought the truck, which were in pretty rough shape. The previous owner said they hadn't worn as well as he had hoped they would, so I decided to try something different (and a bit cheaper) when it was time to replace them. I don't haul anything, so I cannot speak to that matter. They appear to be wearing decently. I have no complaints, but they are all I've ever known on this truck, and I have only put 14k on mine. Not to mention, I spent the winter in Nashville with occasional trips to west-central Indiana, so I have only had them on ice/snow a few times.
