New to 1st Gen's and Has Questions

Hi Everyone,



I am looking for a sweet old 1st Gen for a second vehicle and hoping you guys can help me out. Do they all have peeling paint issues and do they all rust out on the driver's side roof above the windshield? I am even seriously considering going to the West Coast or South to find one that is rustfree. I found a beauty in Phoenix but it sold immediately

The sad news is YES. All of them do that. Even if it isn't showing right now, it's soon to come.



So to help you out, please send me a list of any really nice ones you find for a low price. I'll take care of those doggone ripoff artists!! Uhhh... but I'm only doing this to keep you from getting a bad deal.

There is absolutely no paint peeling or rust anywhere on my 92.

Something to do with the sunlight lifting the paint becasue it attacks the primer... . etc.

My 91 has peeling paint and the front of the drip rail is rusting on the passenger's side. My 93 has neither, but the red is oxidizing. horribly.

oh yes it will come... ..... Death, taxes and 1st gen paint jobs.



I bought my truck up is Saskatchewan, within a year of it being in NJ the hood has been flaking off down to the ultra smooth non-permeable grey primer. I wish it would flake off in one shot and I'd have a grey truck. I guess a repaint is coming down the pike. I'm thinking of going with a mercedes artic or polar white.

That grey isn't impermiable, check out Greenleafs pic. It will be rusty in no time!

When I lived in Virginia, I went past this place that sells "handpicked used western diesel trucks". I stopped a couple of times and sure enough, he had some really nice trucks.



I wonder if you asked him, he would agree to be on the lookout for one you want while he's looking for some to sell. Maybe a finder's fee sort of arrangement.

Rust? What's that. The original paint on my 93 isn't fading or peeling at all.

My 92's paint is in great shape, only issue is clear coat on the dually fender is peeling.

Thanks for all the responses. I am going to MI the 2nd weekend of March to look at a 92 with 132K on the clock. It belonged to the guy's dad who passed away and was his "baby. " Keep your fingers crossed
