Hello,

I just picked up a 02 Avalanche for the wife and not a week after having it set the SES light. The code that came up was P0430 Cat Conv Performance. A new Y-pipe from the dealer is 455 dollars  plus tax and core, that is a little much for right now after just putting a down payment on the vehicle.

Since the vehicle has just over 100K miles I was thinking of getting rid of the cats, but I was just wondering if anyone had seen or knows anything about fooling the post conv O2 sensors?

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks,

Nate

the cat could be getting weak id hit the dealer, theres a federally mandated converter 7 year 1xxk mile warranty on the converter, i can't remember the exact mileage it's 100-150k and depending on the dealer if you are close enough i think they'll do it anyway, had one done free on a jeep that was borderline outta warranty, i can't speak for chevys but aftermarket converters don't work worth a damn on bmws, you get maybe a year and the code comes back as the crappy little cat just gets weak
