First Diesel truck

Thanks for the great suggestions for the phone mount. I do have a suction cup mount for my Samsung S7 Active....it works OK, but wouldn't mind something a little closer. Might have to look into a vent mount.

Using the BT option for phone calls is absolutely awesome. Apparently, the audio is very good on the other end, so the mic pickup must be good. Kudos, Ram!

Edit: On the Ram mounts - has anyone ever removed an adhesive ball-mount? I'm assuming there is a ball that mounts with sticky pad...then from there, connect the device to the ball. I hate the idea of screwing/mounting something semi-permanent to the dashboard. Suction cups don't seem to work on anything except glass.

I also bought an 18’ new off dealer lot and like you I want to keep mine stock. It has more than enough power for pulling my 7K TT. I got between 11 and 12 mpg pulling the trailer. Just got 3000 miles on mine so I know it will loosen up some. From what I’ve heard and read the 18’s emissions equipment aren’t as bad as the earlier models. Enjoy. I know I am.

What changed with the DEF trucks from 2013/2014 to the 2018 models? SnoKing

I don’t have any idea. I really don’t know alot about the one I have. I’ve driven a class 8 for 40 years but this is my first diesel p/u. What I read is only the EGR is before the engine and everything else is post turbo.

Starting with the DEF trucks in 2013, EGR became a much less of an issue. I am not aware of any changes that occurred with the 2018 models.

Good deal. That’s about the only thing I wish I had a tuner for. To cut it back. I think if I keep it serviced (oil and filter) and keep an eye on the EGR I’ll be ok. I know not to let it idle unnecessarily and that the brand of motor oil can have a significant effect on the DPF. Pulling IMO or working the engine is the best thing for it. The last company I worked for used Delvac and we had very few problems with DPFs. Ran Castrol before and stayed broke down.

There were not any hardware changes that I am aware of for ‘18, but the 13-14 trucks were more problematic and software was upgraded, along with removal of the ammonia sensor.

My 2015 got a new SCR system and deletion of one of the sensors under a recall.

Yeah. For some reason I thought 16 was the first year of the deleted ammonia sensor from the factory, but it was removed with a recall on prior years.

I usually keep a notebook in a new vehicle and every time I have an issue or something needs attention, I’ll write it down so it can be addressed at the dealer. I’ve only had this one since September but I have not had any problems and I’ve not found anything to take it back to the dealer for. Very different from my last GM product. I have an air conditioned and heated shop so maintenance is not an issue.
