First Diesel truck

On the other hand, people on slow networks or limited data on their plan do not like larger pictures to load automatically. Just saying, there always two sides to an issue.

I've been on forums of various sorts for at least 20 years, starting back in the dial-up BB days.

Full-size photos have always been frowned upon, and un-edited full size images were often deleted by mods.

Contrary to some thought, thumbnails are the preferred and polite method of attaching photos to threads... with the exception being a DIY/install/etc thread where the OP is documenting something.

Maybe you need to step off your high horse... the size of pictures on an internet forum shouldn't be that much of a concern for anyone.

Maybe you need a sense of humor.

Also it you are going to quote me put it all out there so the context of what I said can be understood.

Do you understand what this means “

Ok ok, we’re kinda stealing John’s thunder here about his awesome truck.

Any mods planned John? Accessories?

Thanks, DieselShadow - got us back on track! :D I'm ok with people taking a tangent and going down the rabbit trail on a soap box...every now and then. :D

Not really much planned for this truck. I've added a few things already: Rugged Cover Tonneau, Window Tint, AMP Bed Step, Husky mudflaps and floorliners. I am going the Line-X route on Monday, the 29th. Just getting the bed sprayed, no rocker panels, etc.

The last and final thing I'm trying to decide on is Katzkin leather seats. If I don't go that route, I'll just add some seat covers of some sort. Since I plan to keep the truck long-term, I think leather might be a good route. I had leather on my F150 Lariat for 12 years and loved being able to get in the truck and not worry about messing up cloth seats after a day running chain saw or spending a rainy day in the tree stand archery hunting. Something simple about being able to wipe down the seats and get them clean. Also, no sweaty funk that might stick into the cloth seats over several years.

I'm not into big lifts - I love looking at them, but other people's experience has taught me that long-term, they're a pain in the backside. Maybe a 1.5" front level with some OEM 20" wheels that someone is getting rid of....I see full sets of wheels+brand new tires on CL for less than $1000 all the time. Maybe when the stock tires are worn out I might consider something like that....that's a big maybe. Right now, I like how it looks on stock, chrome 18's.

It is my opinion that the 18" Laramie wheels are the best looking RAM OEM wheels. They do not suffer from the slotted garbage can lid looks. SnoKing

Well, it's been 24 days with my truck and, last night I filled up the tank for the 2nd time. The MPG average in the instrument cluster had been telling me 19.3 average, which I thought was a bit on the high side, even for a single-cab-long-bed.

My driving has been mostly side roads of around 40-50mph, a stop sign or red light every couple to few miles or so...and a couple trips of about 30 miles on the highway at 65 mph. My tank averaged exactly 18.03 miles per gallon...I fill this truck like I would my F150, on medium speed and stop after the first click...no squeezing off one more click. It took 22.180 gallons to go exactly 400 miles...18.03mpg. I'll take it!!!

Even with the ~0.30 / gallon diesel price penalty over 87 octane unleaded, I still netted a 14% gain in economy / savings in fuel cost per mile over my 2006 F150 5.4L V8. Outstanding. With only 3019 miles on the odo, it should only get better as it breaks in.

I use an Android app on my phone called "FillUp". It was free and extremely simple to use. It only has the bare essential fields of data, let's you track multiple vehicles, let's you export a CSV file for tracking on a spreadsheet, backing up data, etc.

As an interesting side note, my 2006 F150 Lariat had an average MPG indicator that used a rolling "last 500 miles" calculation in the computer. It was NEVER more than 0.1 MPG off the hand-calculated average. I wonder why Ram's calculation is so sketchy. Also, my Ram's "Trip 2" mileage log has never been reset, it matches the odometer for miles. It too reads about 19.1 MPG average.

Looking forward to many years and many miles with this truck - love driving it.

The only item I have every found to be accurate on the display was mileage to empty!

We were camping awhile back in WV and the fueling station on the interstate was about 20 miles away or so. MY wife said lets just pull in to the campsite and fill up in the morning and keep on going the next day after filling up. Will the low fuel alarm and light came on, as I was going up hill to the truck stop to fill up. This is the only time I put in 31 gallons of fuel in my truck. I have a 34 gallon tank and the displayed said I had only 33 miles to go before empty. I was towing my trailer and when towing and I average between 10 to 12 miles to the gallon.

That's good to know. I'll run this next tank down to the warning light. I'd like to see if it holds out for accuracy on mine as well.

Well, I think the truck is pretty much finished now. Picked it up from the Line-X guy in Pine Grove, PA last night. This was one of those deals done entirely over the phone. I dropped the truck off Sunday night and picked it up Monday night....never met them, so I was a little apprehensive since I prefer doing business eyeball to eyeball. It turned out very well. They did a superb job wrapping it up over the front bed rail, wrapped it very nicely down in between the tailgate-bed gap. All the pieces and parts were put back in place correctly. Fantastic!

Next order of business: Scuff up this shiny liner with railroad ties and a load or two of Delaware stone for a small landscaping project.

Can't help but just love this truck...the look, the style, the performance, the power...everything. So happy that I went with the Tradesmen. It really is featured up with everything I need/want and nothing I don't. My only bit of gripe is a handy place to put my phone. Other than that...perfect.

The only thing I am still mulling over is some Katzkin leather seats. I've spent plenty of money the last few months... New bike this past Fall, did a barn re-hab this past Spring and now the truck. I'll see how the checkbook looks after vacation at the end of August. And then go back to the Madam of Finance and test the waters. :D

My older son has a clip that fastens to an air vent and then supports the phone. I believe this also is plugged into a cigar lighter in the dash. He uses his phone for music and waze (driving directions) . He transfers this from vehicle to vehicle as needed. He owns two Dodge diesel trucks and his worker car so, it is moved a lot for his needs.

I’ve used proclips for all my rigs for many years. But they don’t have one that works with my ‘18. So I just use CarPlay and throw the phone in the center console.
