Here I am

New (to me) '99, low mileage caveats?

Thanks, TDR Staff

It's finally in the driveway!

would a boost elbow help?

I bought a '99 4x4 3 months ago with 30,800 miles on it. Yesterday, I watched the odometer turn 40,000, and it occurred to me that my truck is seeing a lot more action than it is used to.

Are there any potential problems I should be aware of in this situation? with just 30k, this truck mostly sat, or if it ran every day, probably hasn't run at the right temperature. Potential problems I've thought of include solutes in fluids, poor lubrication, etc.

Are there any other problems I should be aware of?

Are there specifics I can focus on to ease this truck's transition to daily driver (~100miles), or should I just shut up and drive?

Since you've put 9800 miles on it and no problems... you're probably OK. I check everything on a new (to me) truck. I change all the fluids and filters and as I'm doing that I get to look things over in the process. Even if you don't change them, check 'em. With that many miles since you got it you've prolly changed the oil by now. Might as well go ahead and change the fuel filter too. If you're new to 2nd gen 24v, check the fuel pressure. It's pretty easy and quick to check the diff's and transfer case. Don't forget the hoses and belt, they're ready just from age if nothing else. Nice find.

Since it is new to you and it is a 99 are you the proud owner of the 53 block?.

Alot of 99's have this.

I'm almost afraid to look!

I've read the threads about 53 blocks, and actually gone down to the driveway with a flashlight, but didn't end up looking. I told myself that I just didn't want to get dirty.

Anyway, I did change the oil and filter, inspected what I could, survived a brief panic (which ended when I found the breather tube), and pretty much have enjoyed every minute driving my new rig.

I put a K&N oil filter on the truck, and ordered some fleetguard fuel and oil filters from Geno's on monday (my wife commented that she's never seen a filter that looked like a TDR receiver cover before).

Thanks for the tip on the fuel pressure, didn't realize that it was an easy thing to check.

UPDATE 9/18/05: yup, she's a 53 block.
