Flooding update

Guns, Bows, Shooting Sports, and Hunting Any pellet gun shooters?

We moved in early July, and now have 7+ acres that need mowed. 3-4 acres of "yard" around the house and a 3-4 acre orchard out back that we've been mowing every other time or so. Up until today I have been mowing with a 30 yr old 42" Wheel Horse my dad bought new, while out back duties have been handled with pops old school Massey with a finish mower. Saturday night I was browsing Craigslist when the deal of the year popped up. 2012 Scag Turf Tiger 61" deck, liquid cooled 34 HP big block Briggs Vanguard. Shaft driven deck. 800 hours, dealer maintained every 50 hours with receipts to prove it. Owner is relocating and has to sell pronto. Long story short, original asking price was $4300. Brought this gem home for $3500.

For those that don't know, the Turf Tiger is Scags top tier commercial mower. Sticker on this machine was a tick over $12k plus tax.

This thing is such a boss, it will do a wheel stand on a slight grade from a stand still :D

Yea that looks beyond Home Depot. :-laf
The only thing I see missing is some sort of canopy for sun protection.
Good luck on the new digs! Same general area?

Thanks Wayne, yes still same general area just a little further north. Still near Pymatuning Lake. With the kids getting older we had outgrown our old home....not to mention I outgrew our old garage :D

Scag makes a pretty darn good machine.

They sure do, I had been looking at new Scag and Exmark here locally. There were things I liked about both and was split between the two but when this deal came along I couldn't pass it up.

The only problem with a zero turn is just because that's what it's called doesn't mean that's how you run it. I've torn up a lot of thin turf learning that lesson.

No thin pedicured lawns here, ours is a field-converted yard, with alot of the common grasses :-laf

I'm pretty sure if it was let go for a year or two you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

Nice find!! Congratulations!!

Watch out for Lawn Gnomes.......

What I want to know is where is the ROPS protection on the tractor or the OPS station? Such as A/C or heat in a cab!

I love my lil 48" Scag. Bought mine in 09. Change the oil and belts and let her rip! Mine has the Kawasaki 19hp engine.

AC is above my pay grade Jim!

I was kind of surprised a 1500 lb mower didn't come standard with a ROPS. In today's sue hungry society it's hard to believe Scag makes it an "option".

If I was mowing anything other than a field I would definitely be looking into one.

Mine came with ROPS, but I'm in Ca.....surprised I'm not required to wear a helmet while mowing. All the engine weight makes the zero turns tail heavy, so if I'm going in reverse and quickly push forward on the sticks, the front wheels will come off the ground slightly. Makes it interesting while mowing uphill.

My Husqvarna has the ROPS but it will fold down and pin. The owner's manual says to wear seat belt with ROPS up, don't wear seat belt with ROPs folded down.

Always breaking all the rules aren't ya Mike? :D

Get this, mine actually has a seatbelt....no ROPS but a seatbelt to pin you under the machine when it goes over....brilliant!

That's the one spot that can definitely get you in trouble. They seem pretty stable going along side a hill but feels a little sketchy going up from a stop, esp if it's a steeper hill.

I have mowed with a zero turn a few times and I always get bugs in my teeth from going so fast, much like a happy motorcycle rider. I would own one but I repowered my Gravely riding mower a few years and the wife loves mowing grass with it.

LOL, I can definitely relate. I've got pictures somewhere of me sitting on my old man's brand new Wheel Horse when I was 4-5 yrs old. That same Wheel Horse is sitting in my garage and what I have been mowing with for the last 10+ years. If it wasn't for needing a larger mower I would be content keeping the ol girl on the lawn.

My oldest son (13) has been the primary mower for the past 5+ years. I timed him today mowing the primary section of yard I bought the Scag to mow. A solid 3-4 acres timed out right at 55 minutes.

Give him another couple of rounds and I'm confident he can improve :D
