New to TDR and need advice!!!!

Hey, I'm new and I just purchased my first subscription. I need advice on some uprgrades for my 98. 5 24V 4x4 automatic with a 4'' strait pipe and a custom a air aid free flow filter. I bought a BD vanaiken box on ebay saturday for $250 and now I need some injectors. This is my daily driver, so I need a set that will not smoke to much and not suck to much fuel. I want some decent power, at list to smoke a duramax, if I need to. Also, I need to put that power to the ground, any advice on a torque converter at a decent price? Thanks.

Welcome to the TDR Roadhogz. Best place to get the answers you are looking for. Here is what I know so far.



Smoke control with big injectors is all in the foot. Get too big, and you will need a bigger turbo, and maybe an alternate to the in box K&N for more intake.



If you are going to do injectors, you really need to get some gauges ASAP. Exhaust Temp, transmission Temp, Fuel Pressure and maybe Boost.



I own a manual, but just from what I have read on the subject, DTT, ATS, and Suncoast are the big 3 in the auto transmission buildups.



Do a search on the makers of trannys, injectors, gauges, from the tool bar up top, and you will have enough informative reading for a week.

Checked out some of the suppliers, those torque converters are pricey. I'm looking to add 80-100 hp, can I get away with the stock converter and the stock turbo? What if I upgrade the valve body? Will that work?



I have a transmission gauge and an aftermarket transmission cooler (28,000 lbs) by summitt racing, its the biggest one they carry. I'm looking for boost and pyro gauges, anyone know where I can get a set at a decent price? Thanks.

I am in nearly the same boat as you. Nope, stock transmission wont last, only a matter of time before she goes out. Unless you drive it like a grandma. I like my 275s a fair amount for injectors. From everyone I have talked to and what I have read you might by yourself some time with a valve body but down the road it all comes down to a buildup of the 47re

Roadhogz, I would suggest you try a search through the products/accessories forums, and also the 2nd gen drivetrain forums for opinions and sources for good transmission information and service.



This is a "hot" topic on the forum, so I have elected not to move this thread, but you will find there are several "good" transmission sources, with good shops to do install and service work for you representing those builders and suppliers.

I got my ATS a year ago, and it is the best thing I ever did to my truck. I did have over 100,000 miles on the stock trans, and it was starting to slip. I'm in Los Angeles, PM me if you want more info.

I agree, Clint is a good guy. I spoke with Dave Goerend yesterday on the phone and was very impressed with what he had to say about his products, heckuva nice guy. He doesnt have installers out my way to put in a TC so he called a bunch of local transmission shops and interviewed them for me to see if he felt comfortable having them install a TC. Very impressive, service to go the extra mile.
