Hello everyone;

Just joined TDR today but I recognize a few names here from other places on the web.

I had/will have again shortly an 89 Ram CTD LE 2wd reg cab with the 727 3 speed automatic. This is a long story, short version is that I sold it last summer to finance a business venture that I decided at the last minute not to pursue. Just sold an 84 Rabbit diesel that I had for almost 5 years to keep peace in the family and buy the ol' Ram back. So I know a little about VW diesels and Rams, a lot more about gas cars and trucks, having bought, worked on, and sold 50+ gassers of various kinds before starting in on diesels.

I can only promise to ask stupid questions once, anything more than that would be putting myself out on a limb and handing someone a sharp saw.

Glad to meet you all.

Welcome aboard:) It's nice to welcome a new member espically one from "Hooter"ville:D :D :D It's also great to finally know where we get the "Hooters" from at HootersOo. Oo. Oo.

Seriously you'll enjoy the site and all the help it can provide.

Thanks for the welcome, I guess I need to explain Hooterville. I only wish we had a Hooters and those type of "attractions"; we're so small KFC and Taco Bell are in a single shared building out by I-70. I'm here to tell you that those 2 food groups shouldn't share counter space.

Anyway, Hooterville is taken from the old Green Acres TV show with Eddie Arnold and one of the Gabor sisters, I forget which one. Sort of a local joke. I'm actually located in an ag township about midway along I-70 between the I-70/I-75 interchange near Dayton Ohio and the Indiana border.

Hey Pat;

I am getting the 89 back as soon as the guy finds a 4WD CTD, I plan to keep it this time and thought I'd see what was offered here. I think I'll need the help as time passes. I've got a KDP to deal with sometime soon.

The guy I sold the 89 to did me some favors... stripped and painted the sides where the silver was coming off, noticed that it had the wrong accel pedal installed (fixed my top end/throttle response problems). Thing runs like a rocket. Probably fixed some other things I don't know about yet.

Ever get your TPS and OD working right?

Still got all those IT clients to support?

Yeah, tps fixed when I replaced it. And the dirty diapers are there everyday;) :)

I'm waiting on prints being developed by JLEONARD (this site) for KDP jig. Once finished, I will make a couple and pass them around. What's this about the wrong accel pedal:confused:

Got a list of mods waiting for some warm weather (gauges, 16cm exhaust housing, rear disk conversion, timing, new trans). Parts are in, just don't want to do it in the driveway at 10*:{

Remember all of that deal about setting the kickdown cable and the breakover spring, also cleaning the cable inside the sheath and trimming the return spring? All of that was because I just couldn't get the thing to go like I thought that it should. I finally chalked it up to the big red 55 on the speedometer.

The guy I sold it to had previously driven one with the 3 spd auto and knew there had to be something else wrong. The only thing left I hadn't gone through was the pedal assembly and bushing. The bushing was ok so he got another pedal assembly. It was different. He couldn't figure out why. I knew the rest of the story... the second owner was handicapped and they put a hand throttle on the truck. When they converted it back to foot throttle, they must have lost the original pedal assembly and got one from a gasser or something. It bottomed out before getting to the end of the throttle linkage. I never noticed it from the engine side, everything worked fine out there. Now it goes like stink, way faster than I need it to. :eek:

that's the story. As Homer Simpson would say... d'oh!

BTW, your truck profile sounds a lot like mine. Photo (I think) attached. (before sides painted etc).
