Hey guys... I am new to the 24 valve and looking to purchase an '02 2500. Besides the injection pump problems, what other problems are common in the 24 valves or specifically with the 2002? How does the 6 spd NV5600 compare to the NV4500? What should I look for when buying one? Thanks

Todd

Hi, i like the 2002 because they came with rear discs. Other than lift pump if your looking at a 4x4 the frount end is something to look at . The track bar and ball joints the track bar isn,t to big a deal to replace but the ball joints are expensive to replace. The 6 speed is more popular than the 5 speed the 5 speed has had problems with 5th gear going out but alote of poeple have had good luck with them. Good luck

The 2002 is (IMHO) probably the most desirable of the 24V 2nd generation trucks as it was the most mature of the series. Therefore, a lot of the problems that affected earlier 24V 2nd generation trucks have been minimized. In addition, the rear disc brakes of the 01. 5 model year trucks onward are a marked improvement.

The lift pump is more of a problem than the VP-44 injection pump. If you stay on top of the lift pump condition (get a fuel pressure gauge), you can go a long ways toward keeping the VP-44 healthy.

I took delivery of my 2002 on August 15, 2001 and it's never been back to the dealer for anything. No warranty problems at all, despite the fact that we use it almost exclusively to tow our 5th wheel RV.

I like the '02 also. You have the 2nd gen look, all disc brakes, the HO option, and the six speed. I bought it used and installed the gauges for the lift pump. The only minor problem I want to fix is the slight pull to the right. It really doesn't even pull, I just don't like having the steering wheel not straight up and down when I am traveling straight. But then, I had the same problem with my '93 and never fixed it.
