New to the 24v world.....How much can I load her?

Well it looks like i am moving my posts over to the 24v forum... recently (actually in the process of) selling my 96' auto. . 2500... . and buying a 01' manual, 3500, H. O. 6 speed... ... I will be attaching a 40 foot dual, tandem, gooseneck, that probably weighs about 7k lbs. About how much can i load onto that trailer... can i put 20k lbs on the trailer and the truck still pull it alright? Thanks in advance for the help... ...

Is the 5th gear nut a problem with this H. O. engine and transmission, or was it resolved?

The good news is that the 5th gear nut problem was with the 5 speed. The bad news is that the 6 speed has been known to have a gear clash problem (but I think that it may have been resolved).

It depends on what gear you get. If your really going to risk towing that much then 4:10, then I would keep it to in town only. the problem is that the engine has the power to pull it but stopping is a different matter! Not to say the strain you'll be putting on the drive-train. It will do it but life of drive-train will be cut short!

Yep, it will sure pull it.

Just be aware that comparing your 12v to the HO 24v will be disappointing at first. It was for me. Unlike the 12v my 24v doesn't make comparable power till 22 or 2400 rpm then the new engine comes alive like my 12v NEVER could. To me the 24v drives almost like (dare I say it) a V8. This whole thing was a real let down at first. I was so used to the 12v's low end grunt.

Now however with half of the engine break-in finished, I'm about to do my third oil change and this HO 24v engine continues to amaze me. The power is still all on top but what power it is!!!! This thing is stone stock and absolutely rips. It didn't really come alive until I towed with it and towed big. That's when the truck showed it's true colors. It's an animal! I have the feeling it could tow anything hooked to it. The transmission likes all the weight as well. Unloaded the shifting was real notchy. Loaded it was much easier. I've never driven trucks made to tow like these Dodges.

Buy gauges, an exhuast brake, let it break in to say 10k, then bomb the heck out of it. That what I'd do if I had a budget. From what I understand, bombing will get back that low end power plus so much on top that the stock clutch will slip!! From what I've read, 350 rear wheel horse power is very easy to attain :D :D

RAMalama... ... . the truck i am lokking at to buy already has 65000 miles on it..... so it should be pretty well broken in... ... do you have any idea where i can purchase a Jake Brake online for this thing ?
