Please report on the new track bar mount from Darin (solidsteel)

I just found out that Darin of www.Solidsteel.ca has produced a new track bar bracket that allows you to use the '03+ track bar on the older second gen trucks.

Their web site says that it will never wear out since it uses rubber bushings (??)

Has anyone had the opportunity to try it or have you seen a truck with it installed yet? It supposedly needs no drilling and can be installed in 20 minutes.

I was about to order the DT track bar but this is an interesting development that I want to research first. My only concern is that it is not adjustable. I plan to add a leveling kit to my truck and want to be able to re-center the axle.

and I did see the other thread but no one has reported back on how it is working and if they have a different bracket for the 2" leveled trucks.

Let me know.

Thanks

Phil

Don't know if it is true but, I heard through the grapevine that they may be making a bracket just for us level-kit guys. If it does happen then I will be getting one. :)

bracket offset...

How much offset would the bracket be required to have if you used 2" coil spacers - and towards which side of the truck?

I've already spoken to Rip Rook about it. He has them in stock and told me that a few of his other customers have installed them on their trucks with positive results. He hasn't heard any negative comments.

The next time I have to change my track bar, I'm calling Rip and ordering the bracket and the 03 track bar!!!

Just about ready to get a dt trackbar but better look at this first. Who

is rip rook and how to get ahold of them.

thanks

Just a rumor around with so cal group, one was installed on a truck and when turning the wheel back and forth there is alot of flex in the bracket. The member that installed it and told me this info stated he has talked to Darin about it and they were going to look into this. That was a awhile ago so maybe some changes have been made since then. And like I said this was passed on to me from another member who installed and tested it and stated there was to much flex and needed some more support. Later.

I think I am going to stick with installing the DT Track Bar. It has been out longer and is proven more than Darin's is. The comment about the flex in the bracket scares the crap out of me.

Plus: They do not have one for the 2" lift yet and so my axle would not be centered.

Thanks guys.

Phil

I installed the 03 bracket on my 01 last week.

It seems solid, and well made. My original trac bar was not showing excess movement yet, so the improvement is not as dramatic as the DSS.

Darin must have improved the bracket, I haven't detected any flex.

Time will tell!!

THANKS PIERS!!!

Bob

mediccummin,

That rumor was based on my truck,The torque specs were not high enough on the 94 frame. Torqued to a higher spec and all is good

I have done a few more on various years and they all have been working out great.

Remember Dave is a bit on the paranoid side... ... Bone stock truck with 30-40 gauges

I bought my bracket from RIP 4 or 5 months ago now and it seems as solid as when I put it on (immediately). I have seen NO flexing of the bracket!! The difference really showed itself with my camper on and the cargo trailer in tow. Solid steering feel. I noticed a difference when I replaced the Luke's Link with this set up. I bought it because it would be the last track bar I'd ever have to buy for the truck and it will be. The bracket sits tight against the frame of the truck so I don't know where it would flex. My . 02.

Thanks for the reply Bob4x4. Like i stated it was just a rumor, and I was'nt %100 sure. Sounds like you got it all worked out then. Besides did'nt you know that a bone stock truck needs 30-40 gauges and 12" fender flares to cover the bone stock tires. Just to pick on Dave a little. Later. :D :-laf

No, the only problem would be with plow brackets or front receiver that uses the four swaybar bolts. Make sure to soak the four bolts with WD40 or sim. product. In the northeast salt and sand live in the frame and freeze bolts solid.

Just installed a DSS Steering box brace last week and I can't see how it could flex if installed properly and at the correct torque for each of the bolts. It took me 1 hour to install it on a 98. 5 4x4 and I only broke one torque wrench. The adapter bolt on the steering box has to be torqued to 170 ft/lbs and that did my torque wrench in. I noticed a great improvment in the lack of wandering back and forth on the road. Got mine from Rip rook in Oregon. I don't have any affilation with his company. Try it you'll like it.

Since this thread is about Darin's track bar bracket and not about Darin's steering stabilizer, these four bolts should not be an issue.

The flex concern mentioned involved Darin's track bar bracket.

Is Darin answering the mail?

Just wondering if Darin is still in business or just tied up with other things that are delaying him in answering mail?

Anyone found 03 track bars in Canada at reasonable prices? Got one quote of $350. 00 plus then comes the taxes.
