My new 5spd from Blumenthals with less than 5,000 miles and only 2 months worth of use has crapped out:{ :mad: including my SBC Con "O" and left me stranded on the side of the highway for about 8 hours, 175 miles from home:mad: I really don't know what I am going to do with this truck, I don't have the money to raplace the clutch so it looks like it will be parked for a while:{

I have a stock clutch from my truck in perfectly fine shape. Probably not gonna help much if you had a Con O but if it'll limp ya around for a while it's yours for the shipping.

Can't tell ya much about the problems with yer transmission, havn't really had much to do with em.

I hate being stranded.

MMclain,

Sorry to hear of your problems, I know the guys at Blumenthals very well. They are a pleasure to do business with. Give me a call if you need any contact names over there. As for the clutch... when you call I am sure we can work something out to get you back up and running. ;)

I also have a stock clutch off the old rig [98. 5 /nv4500] ... . still has some miles left in her ... . even have the pressure plate [haven't sent it off to Peter yet LOL ... not one I owe him so stop thinking I'm one of the culprets he is annoyed at LOl] anyone needing it ??

also have a stocker from the '01 no fly wheel on that one any one needing it... [ lets reserve it for the down and out guy !!] . . that one is low miles

Peter you are a class act !!

Peter its like I said in the past I wish more venders work as hard as you do to keep your customers happy. And my hats off to all the TDR members as well.

Woodenhead, sent ya a PM.

Thanks Goes out to all of the great people on the TDR, including the vendors.

I will be pulling the trans tonight and will know for sure what happened and if it did actually damage the clutch.

Thanks again everyone I will let ya know the damage.

Marshall, good luck with yer transmission/clutch. It sounds like you won't have any problems with getting the new parts.

Worst part is you missed one heck of a good time here in Cheyenne. We'll catch ya next time for sure. We did all feel bad you were stranded way up there. If you weren't 5 hours away, I woulda come and got ya.

Don't feel to bad. I went through 3 ST transmission's in 12K miles till I got the one I'm on now. I just have a real problem with rebuilds out of another truck.

As for Peter, what has been said and more , as far as I am concerned. .

Good luck.

Blumenthal Mfg

MMcLain's Mom here.

It has been pointed out to me that our threads can be taken to be badmouthing Blumenthal Mfg. There is no intention of that!

Blumenthal's has a great reputaion and they are living up to it in their service to us.

We are frustrated with having 2 CTD's broken down in the past few months, but it is not directed towards Blumenthal's 'cause they are not the problem.

Thanks,

Karen

I also want to apologize to Blumenthal MFG, the comments were not directed at them just at the truck I guess my frustrations got the better of me.

They are living up to there reputation of having excellent customer service with helping me get my mess worked out.

Since the nature of the transmission failures wasn't mentioned, we can't do any diagnosing to help. However, one area that few people check is alignment of the transmission. Put a magnetic based dial indicator on the end of the crank, with the tip of the indicator on the bellhousing surface that the transmission plugs into. turn the engine over by hand and see how far the bellhousing is offset. Factory spec is not over . 007" if I recall correctly. I like to see about +/- . 001". It is also possible that the housing is not "flat" and one side is farther away from the block than the other. To check this, put the indicator tip to the surface the transmission sits on, and again turn the crank by hand.

Joe,

Thanks for the idea I will try it before the new trans goes back in.

As for the carnage in the transmission I will know tomorrow when I call Blumenthals, so hopefully I can figure out what caused it to go out so soon and get it fixed.

I will also give a BIG HUGE Thanks to Peter at South Bend Clutch for his help in getting me set up with a replacement clutch.

The transmission is on it's way backOo. and the clutch got here this afternoon, So I should have the beast back on the road by the end of next week. According to Blumenthal somehow some of the teeth on the 4th gear had been torn off:eek:  they said from extreme shock load or a missed shift. Since my brother had it when it started making noises I will blame it on him:rolleyes: Blumenthal completely warrantied it so my hats off to them.

I would say a heck of a lot more than hats off. Especially if they are fixing something under warranty that wasn't defective.
