Well the trucks in the shop. She will be out tuesday. I ended up buying a transmission from a junkyard because mine is trashed. I believe the final bill will be in the two thousand dollar range when all is said and done. I have to take my tc in and get it rebuilt. :( Thats alot of money considering its the poor boy route.

You absolutely owe it to yourself to get ahold of Bill Kondolay at DTT, hopefully before the shop gets too far into the repairs. He will give you a world of advice, the best TC and/or valve body available, or in your case, maybe a completely rebuilt transmission for close to the same price.

The stock trannys are junk (as you may know by now). Putting another in now, will end up costing another rebuild later on. For the extra money, this should be the time to get one that is built to last.

I dread the day mine goes (and know that it will), but look forward to getting one that will perform as well as the engine.

I don't have his 800- number, but could you can find it on his website (see: transmission shops in the "links" page).

I agree 100% with "boonsur"

$2000 is a ton of money to spend to end up with the same "mushy" stock transmission.

just took my 01 ctd to the ***** dealer. if i leave the truck sit for about 3 or more days the tc appears to drain. if i start it and try to go all i have is increase in rpm's but no movement. :(

Bruce,

Torque Flite transmissions have been doing that for over 30 years. If they sit a while the TC will drain. Just let it idle for a little bit in "N" when you first start in the morning and you are good to go for the rest of the day. It's worse if you park with the nose of the truck uphill. My Dad's '63 Plymonth factory hot rod did the same thing. The dealer can't fix it. Some years of these trucks had a check valve in the cooler line to help with this, but the valve can cause problems. Start it up, put it in "N", fasten your seat belt, pick your nose, and go.

Our 1996 V-10 with automatic exhibited this torque converter draindown phenomenon from the time it was new. As Joe said, just idle it in neutral for 10-15 seconds or so when you start it up, and you're ready to go. It's just the nature of the beast - nothing to worry about. :D

Well guys if you look at his signature,it looks like he had a BD converter and valve body already in it. I'm kinda surprised it failed with those engine mods.

Is the local shop going to be able to rebuild the TC the same way BD built it?

forked up transmission

Yeah I emailed bill but i dont have the money or the core to send him. My core is trashed . They said the had done the x stators before at the rebuild shop. I know its not gonna work for me but i cant afford the price tag right now or to have my money maker at the shop. I just got back from my honeymoon 3 weeks ago and I spent every dime i had in maui. Friggin planets went out ,why cant i have a friggin 727 thats all i want. I dont need a damn o/d.

Dont throw your money away

All these guys are correct, you need to call Bill K it will be the best call you ever make.

almost done

Well they were able to find a way to drag it out a few more days. Its gonna freeze up here soon in the AK so I explained to them the dilemna of driving a nova around that has a shift kit in it on ice. They promised me Id get it in the morning. Im hopeful to make it through the winter and get a dtt transmission next spring. I appreciate all the good advice. Is it normal to pay 330 for a rebuild of a bd convertor. I complained enough so they dropped it to 260. Any comments?? The rebuild guy was very impressed with the product. I had it rebuilt not cause it failed but more to get all the remnants of my planets out of it. P. S. Has anyone heard of a 727 and np205 swap?

Big_Daddy_T, can I ask where you had the work done?

Within a year or two I want to have the DTT mods done on my transmission, and I'd like to know which shops here do decent work (I'm assuming you're in Anchorage?)

Thanks,

Mike

close to anchorage

hey mike i live in chugiak. I hear b and m in anchorage are real good. Ive been to taylors transmision. Hes very good. He installed my tc and vb. A little spendy but i am willing to pay extra to have it done right the first time. Im not down with down time on my p/u. AAA rebuilt my tc this round and A transmission exchange here north of eagle river installed it. Randy at A transmission is very good at what he does and comes highly recommended from a great many people. He only charged me $400 to r&r my transmission and rebuilt my valve body to boot. You cant beat that. Good luck Mike and there are a few bombers around town if you keep your eye peeled.
