Wanting to upgrade to a dullie from a 2500, here's the deal after two trips to dealer;

Trading- '03 2500, 4x4, SLT, 6spd HO, Sport pkg, SWB, with 25k on it. Truck is like new.

Dealer has new '05 3500 DRW, SLT, 6spd HO, 4x4, same truck as what I have now, but DRW's and it isn't a sport.

Dealer wants my truck and $8400 + tax, they keep the $2k rebate

Keep in mind I'm in Upstate NY, haven't found a lot of trucks w/a 6spd.

Thanks,

Matt

Thats not bad -- Heck dually is a $1000 option - And if you can pay about $3000 a year for depreciation, thats not to bad at all

Could be better, but certainly not terrible

Racechaser, it depends on how much they want for the '05. I just looked at nada.com and it says that your truck would trade in for about 34,500 and you could expect to pay about 38,600 for that truck on the lot. I am not sure what kind of options you're looking at, but IMHO you can get a better deal. Take a look at www.dodge.com and www.nada.com. Build what you want, then compare the new price v. s. your trade in. Then use that against them if you can. They should come off of the sticker, especially since they are gonna be stuck w/ the 05's when the 06's come out. I would mention that also. Tell them what you want to pay, and if they do not want to deal, ask for a manager. I am just speaking from my own personal experience.

Bert

Sport package is an $800 or so option and negates any additional cost of the dually option.

I wouldn't pay that unless you're really heart-set on the truck you found. I'd call up Tom and order a new truck and sell yours outright. :)

Two things to keep in mind:

--Dealers don't give a rat's behind about NADA or Kelley, means nothing. Most use Mannheim, not available to the general public, but it's more precise, updated daily I believe, and takes into account actual sale prices on new and used vehicles in each geographic area. I believe it includes private sales too. Anyway it's likely a vehicle is going to be valued less than NADA & Kelly on Mannheim (my '01 came out to 17. 5k on NADA but only $14,500 on Mannheim based on local zip).

--Secondly I NEVER use MSRP when dealing on a vehicle. . . that means nothing to me, I strictly talk invoice numbers.

Good luck, Vaughn

Be patient and sell your truck privately.

And that NADA $34,500 trade in value sounds WAY too high. I went to NADA.com and used an Albany, NY zip and from the info in your sig came up w/ a trade in value of $28,675.

Sounds like a good trade to me. You have to remember they have to spend time cleaning and prepping your vehicle before it goes out the door. The additional costs involved between a 2500 and 3500 is about 800. 00. I think they are looking at about $4,000 per year depreciation.

But if your going from a Laramie to an SLT, you might be getting the short end of the stick.

It just depends what you want. Selling it yourself will generate the greatest return, but it will take time to sell it. It profits a man who waits.

New vehicle ==> YES, your getting robbed!!

In addition to the reasons mentioned above, you'll loose thousands just driving the new vehicle off the lot. Look around and buy someone's used low-mileage truck that has most, if not all the features you want and save your money!!

Now come on... .

There is something to be said about the smell and tight feeling of a BRAND NEW truck... Almost has a "un-touched" feeling about it, Like its yours and no one ever, ever has enjoyed it like you are going to for the rest of its life... ... ... :-laf

Really though, being the first owner is cool, IMO (just dont go and sell it like in 2 months, that might not be the best financial move :( )

Tomey & CORed, I agree with both of you. My current truck I bought a year ago with 12k miles on it, that was a deal. Can't find any handshakers used with low mileage, (*&^%$#@ auto's), oh, no disrepect auto guys ;) I'm thinking about calling and telling them if they throw in a Jake I'm in. I'd love to sell mine outright, have had great luck in the past, but with camping season starting up next month, I don't want to be stuck w/o a truck, or be forced into buying something I don't want.

Ya, there is something about the smell and feeling of a brand new vehicle. But it sure is one expensive smell to get. ;) Just not worth it for me. I can get more excitement out of 100 extra horsepower (and for a longer period of time than that smell / tightness will last) and do it for a LOT less money!!

But that's just me... I haven't found the seeds for that money tree yet. If I did... well... I'd probably say it would have to be an extra 200 horsepower then. [laugh] :)

Getting a little personal aren't we, Tom?

How hard is it to order up all those rigs, and have to let them go?

Well, when I get a truck in that is pretty close to my "perfect" configuration... It is hard to see go to someone else, But hey, the more oilburners, the better!!!

PS - sometimes it is fun to order up like 40 trucks, Just think... I spent $1,500,000 last month on trucks ALONE!!! (and none of my money :-laf )

Don't mean to light the torch, but I'm guessing Tim you got your truck?

No, see the other 5 threads on it. I still don't have my truck and I had to cancel my trip to Tellico. I'm just going to wait and go pick up my truck from Tom. It sucks but such is life, Tom and his boss both did everything they could.

Since this question has been answered please do me a favor and keep this one on topic. I don't want to be responsible for hijacking another thread. If you want to discuss this issue further please PM me.

Hey Matt

I got it all except the part were you say "same truck as what I have now, but DRW's and it isn't a sport"??? I'm missing something??. There is a big difference in some of the drive train components, like bigger rear brakes more agressive rear spring pack etc.

You are going to love the handling charicteristics that the DRW provides when loaded heavy!!. I went to the DRW in 99 you'll really feel the difference.

Mac

Thank's Mac, not looking to open that can of worms, I was only pointing out the difference between the two as far as options go. I had an '01. 5 3500, at the time it wasn't practicle as a daily driver. I have a heavier 5'er now so the peice of mind of 4 tires in the rear is what I'm after.
