Hey guys, we just took delivery of a new Mega Cab 2500 SLT, Auto, 4x4. My question is, is there anything that should be done to these trucks? For example, on a 24v, you need to install a fuel pressure gauge.

Is there anything to look out for or fix (ie KDP on the older motors) before I get too much mileage on the truck?

Thanks so much!!

Robert

Have they changed the lift pumps on these trucks? I thought that even on the 5. 9 HPCR engines it was a good idea to stick a FASS system or similar on it. What has changed?

before you drive it you need to get rid of the egr, next next do a turbo back 5" with a good muffler, most off road places have kits to keep from getting codes , next install a good oil bypass filter , program it with smarty this will double life and add 5 mpg

CKelly1, where have you seen any kits that will keep from throwing codes? also a smarty? havent seen one yet for the 6. 7. Tell me where and im BUYING!!!

A fuel pressure gauge won't have anything to do with the dpf, he meant for the fuel filter.

I would get egt, fuel pressure, and trans temp gauges at least just so you can watch what they all do from when the truck was new.

If you don't get rid of the emmissions b. s. DO NOT IDLE IT more than you need to, that is about 90% of the problems they are having. Read the owners manual completly. Also drive it like you stole it every once in a while. Even if you don't pull the emmissions stuff off, you still shouldn't idle it.

First thing is get the fast idle option turned on by dealer. This lets you set higher idle speed with cruise and helps avoid idling issues. Then get the gauges. Even if no mods are done the gauges let you know what's going on. Keeping the boost gauge as low as possible helps improve MPG. Make turning on the exhaust brake part of your normal startup procedure. Should always have it on and run it hard every now and then.

Enjoy the truck, the 08s are great.

Drive the hell out of it and tow as heavy a load as you can put together. during the first 1000 miles. Be sure to take some grease with you when yopu go for fuel though. OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How does a Fuel Pressure gauge tell you if the DPF is plugging??

Robert

mopartech is right. Fuel filter. When you can suck the fuel pressure down far enough, it's time to change the filter. I have a banjo bolt with a fitting on it (from genos iirc) mounted on the feed line to my injection pump. If the filter is restricted, it shows on the gauge.

Not to get off topic, but if a person wanted to put better fuel filters on one of these new trucks and installed a fuel gauge to watch and see whether or not the stock in tank pump could handle the job, what numbers would I be looking for? How low is too low, where is a safe zone?
