new truck break in???

I am supposed to take delivery of my new 2002 Dodge 2500 4x4 CTD H. O. on monday, and am wondering how to break it in correctly? How to drive it at first, when to do the first oil change, second, etc... This is my forst diesel, I was raised around Ford diesels, unfortunately I didn't pay attention to his maint. habits. Thanks for the help-

Warm it up, put on a load, and put your foot in it.

as plowboy said, load it and drive it. try to do some towing early. the CTD likes to pull, as you'll find out. try not to run it at a steady RPM for long distances for the first 1-2 thousand miles. some tdr members have said they didn't use the cruise control for awhile. i changed the oil and filter and fuel filter at about 1500 miles. may have been overkill, but it made ME feel better--always figure that a few metal filings will come off new parts early on. i know changing the oil, filter, and fuel filter early didn't HURT anything, any way.....

My Dad got his first CTD in 92. Picked it up and drove about 20 miles to the camper dealer and had a new fifthwheel hitch installed. Then he hooked on to his new 14K lb fifth wheel and pulled it 15,000 miles. That truck today has 120K miles on it and still gets 20 MPG.



As they say... load it up and drive it like you stole it...

I would not maintain a constant rpm at least not a high rpm and let the motor work through the rpm range dont baby it also I would change my oil at 600 miles because this is when you will have the most metal shavings as the motor breaks itself in good luck and have fun!

don't do like me put a skid of concrete pavers in the back on a duraliner tap the brakes and take out the front of the cab and bend the back of the cab.
