When I had rear main seals replaced by dealer, They said oil fill is "good to go anywhere in safe". Not what I like. I want it at the full mark! You wouldn't want to be running around a pint low on "blood"! JM2C. @Turbo Terry, Glad you're enjoying that new truck! You deserve to have someone else do the service now. Let the miles roll on, sit back and enjoy the scenery!

I like my dipstick around 1/2 on a cold motor, but anywhere is technically fine, thou I will add to 1/2 if I'm below 1/2.

Temp does play a big role too. Engine oil will expand approx 5% with a 120° rise, which is .6 qts or 25% of the range between add and full.

Nope, usually a little below it. But I drain for a LONG time, thou I am not sure much more than a few tablespoons comes out after 30 minutes.
That came to me too, it doesn't make a big of a difference if you wait 5 Minutes or 5 hours. So I also do the 5 Minute, hot engine of course.

Full mark to add mark is 2 quarts.

Interesting! I always let mine drain overnight and add 11- 2/3 quarts and it's dead on full on mine. My Shop floor is dead level.

Anyway I’m not taking it back. But since I changed my oil early 3 k and really don’t need to take it in until the first pat of November one year or 15 k miles or another 12 k by then. Why did they put a sticker in my window that truck needs to come back for serving September 1 or 8000 miles I looked in the book maybe to rotate the tires etc I’m not sure. I’m very new to this warranty stuff. I was bombed early on back in the day and truck before that in 1983 had a one year 12 k mile warranty which in Wyoming is not very long. I do not want to void my warranty I’m trying to understand this all. So if I’m on this big road trip next late summer and don’t get back properly at one year and or 15 k for serving do I void the warranty

No different than the “advised EGR cooler cleaning” that is NOT needed on the 13’s up at 67,500 miles. Just another way for them to jab the customer.
Take it in at 12 mo or 15k no harm no foul.

Well I will have the camper on. Not many dealers on the alaska hiway Whitehorse and Edmonton I suppose if I call and make a appointment if I’m running a little late by a week or two I will be ok Diesel $5.20 gallon gas $4.70 in Anchorage now going to be a expensive trip I’m sure

So my old 99 24v 5.9 held 3 gallons 12 qts but when I changed oil and filter mostly took 2.5 gallons maybe a bit more but always a quart or so left. Dealer put 3.0 gallons in new 2022 3500 ho 6.7 Did it get over filled. I’m watching the dip stick as it cools down or did they just throw it out . Things I need to know

According to the book, your 1999 *should* have a capacity of one quart in the filter and 10 in the pan for a grand total of 11, not 12. The 2022 should, unless something changed from 2019, have a capacity of quart in the filter and eleven in the pan for a nice convenient three gallons total.
