Dear Jim,

My name is Bob Bettencourt, Live in Lake Tahoe, CA (6500 ft above sea level). Just bought a 99 2500 Ram, Turbo, Quad, Long Box Auto with 36K miles. It is in immaculate condition.

POWER MODS: Have been trying to do my homework regarding power mods. Been reading about all of them and just bit the bullet and bought a DYNO SOURCES INC "Power Button" ($500). There are so many of these power mods out there, which one is better?. I know this question is ambiguous but there must be a consenses out there. I will be towing a 24' travel trailer above 5000' About (6500 lbs).
Did I make a mistake? Should I have bought a BD? ( spent 8 months researching trucks, don't want to have to do that with accessories or upgrades) Is it worth it?, Will it effect the truck in any adverse way?
OILS/ADDITIVES:. Should I change all my fluids to Amsoil Synthetic, Trans/Gear Boxs/Engine???
Should I use a fuel additive? Thanks for the assistance, your site is "the best". Sincerely, Bob Bettencourt, Lake Tahoe, CA

Bob, I don't have a clue, but there are plenty of people on this board that do. One thing you did right was getting the correct tow vehicle.

If it were my truck I'd try and decide how much you want to spend and then go from there. I don't know anything about the product that you purchased, but here is what I do know. You can get Bosch 275 injectors for less than $300. You can get a Practical Solutions boost module for less than $200. This amount of power will not destroy the auto. At this point you need to decide how much you want to do to the transmission as it WILL need attention if you add any more power. And as always EGT, Boost, and trans temp gauges are highly recommended.

How much does your trailer weigh? You may need to consider an exhaust brake, but someone who knows more about them than me needs to help you on that one.

Hope this helps,
Mike
