My son and I just went to virginia and got a 90 w-250 4x4. The owner had already put a banks intercooler and exhaust on it as well as pyro and boost guages. It has 240k on it and has the 5 spd. It runs awsome but looking for some information on how to get a little more out of it. It will hit 20psi but every gear you have to wait way to long for the boost to hit. Any idea's?

What's the pyro say at max temp? Also where is the temp probe for the pyro? Did the previous owner install the Banks wastegated exhaust housing also?

sorry it took a while to get back to you. On the way home it ran about 600-650 degrees, pyro is post turbo. didnt really look at max boost. i'll have to look. this weekend i messed with the pump a little bit. only went 1. 5 turns in on the "power screw" don't know how far you can saftly go. it dosent have a banks housing. no wastegate

If the pyro is post-turbo and you're seeing around 650*F you can safely add another 200*F or so to that reading,or, 850*F... that will be the approx temps PRE-TURBO.

That is fairly low and tells me you have room for more fuel to start with.

The turbo spoolup is a function of exhaust pressure/volume and turbo exhaust housing size.

I believe your model year had an 18. 5cm turbo exhaust housing on it.

The truck would perform alot better with a smaller housing like a 16cm or perhaps a 14cm.

Each size down you go will add about 2-3psi more boost pressure without any other changes. Eventually you'll reach a point were the housing size becomes a detriment due to the backpressure they create.

Take a quick read thru the "sticky" threads at the top of our Forum and you'll find some great tips from the whole group in here... .

You're looking to tweak your fueling via the AFC cone, the smoke screw, the full fuel screw and the governor screw.

Maybe print off some of the stuff including the pictures and you'll have so easy to identify items for your tuning/tweaking.

If you have a specific question just ask away and you'll get lots of input from "the crew". :D:D:D

Thanx for the replys, I really apreciate the advice

After tweaking the pump a little it was much better on the shifts, At 22psi whitch it will hit now the post turbo pyro reads about 650deg.

I turned the idle back down but can't seem to turn the smoke down. dont know witch way or how much to turn.

Basically i'm learning by trial and error, if someone could give me some directions on how to properly adjust the pump that would be awsome. Reading other posts i'm in the dark about alot of terms you guys use for the pump adjustment.

By reading the posts it sounds like a 16cm housing will be coming soon. Any info on where to get one or does anyone have a used one for sale.

What turbo does my truck have anyway, it's built in 12-89 so it's an early 90 if that matters. I know dads 94 has the hx35 but it looks phsically differnt from mine.

Go read the info Bushwacker refered to, you will get the answers to how to adjust the pump. Go back to the main first gen menu and go to the third "sticky" which is named "governer spring/ VE info merged together".

Print out the entire post and then sit and read it. Lots of good info in there.

Have fun!! Oo. :)

When you check the boost, are you putting the truck under a good load? Find a long hill somewhere and then start at the bottom and got to the top as fast as you can. (A steep freeway on ramp works) Watch the boost and also watch the EGT's when doing this. The pyro readings you have sound low.

Try PDR for a housing.
