new truck-diesel or gas?

I "Got Diesel", and could not justify the expense because I don't tow anything heavy on a regular basis - so I did not try to justify it. I don't haul anything big or heavy on a regular basis. I have a truck that is capable of doing anything I have any business doing, and when it is all said and done I will have much higher resale, and I will have been able to go Boogity Boogity Boogity anytime I want. Most of all, I am a proud Cummins owner. There is nothing like the smell of diesel on a cold morning. I like taking the road less traveled. I never have been a conformist. Ok, I am off my soap box.

I would throw another variable into the choice... how long do you plan on keeping a vehicle? I bought my wife the 03 diesel below based upon us keeping our vehicles until they completely... expire 10 - 20 years?.



Many folks keep vehicles 2-4 years. The last two gas vehicles I owned I had one 10 years (90 Toyota 4X4 190K mi) and another seven years (96 Dodge Ram 1500 5. 9L gas 110K mi). A gas truck can last as long as a diesel, if you're not towing too heavy.



It's all in what you want and what you to spend.



A little off the subject: Too bad Toyota doesn't offer one of the turbo-diesel land cruiser trucks they sell overseas. They are bad to the bone.

Jeep owner wanna be CTD owner!!

I have been up and down all the threads looking for a reason I should keep my 98 Jeep Cherokee and I have to say this thread made my mind up hands down. I too am in the Air Force and am approaching reassignment in August. For those that don't know, the AF will pay you for shipping your own stuff based on weight. I just bought a 5x8 railed trailer to do some landscaping and to tow my crap from Reno, NV to Fayetville, NC. My Jeep would be screaming after 3000 miles towing 1 3/4 tons of junk as it did when I moved out to Reno from Wisconsin.

So I will take a big chunk out of the price of the CTD by buying the Dodge and moving to NC. After reading "NNelson's first and second cost-basis law of gasoline and oil", I can see $$$$$ in the future. Anyway, I get 19 mpg 21 tops hwy with my jeep and I've test driven the 2500 about a thousand times, partly just to sit in the seat and lay a patch if the dealer lets me take it out alone. I averaged in the short span from the dealership in Jacksonville, AR to downtown, LR, stop and go and hwy about 18mpg. The sick thing is that I'm starting to buy upgrades for the truck I don't even have yet and am not sure when I'll have it. I'm still looking for the perfect deal before the 06 comes out.

To sum it up. I might only tow this little trailer across the country once every three years but as one member said, I have a truck that will do anything and will go anywhere when I want. That is something my little jeep (god bless its little drive-train) could do some of the time but not all the time like a Dodge can. I can add that my Father's admiration for the '59 powerwagon and '65 town panel currently in restoration helped in my interest in Dodge quality. Good on ya mate, go for it, I tow a few time a year and the wife love driving the CTD, it her truck now, and mine when I home on leaves, as I work in Saudi Arabia.



And I to say "GOD bless the troops and God willing they be home safe in the near future.
