I'm going to be buying a 2016 2500, 4x4, 68rfe, crew cab long bed. What are some of the first things to do to these trucks? On my '01 it was gauges and BHAF. What are you guys doing first on these? I noticed they don't have a pyro in the gauges, I plan on one of those. I also plan on a bed mat and a camper shell. I don't have a 5th wheel and the only thing I plan on towing is my jeep on a trailer. Only reason I got this truck was my kids got to big for the back seat of the '01, which I still have, and no it's not for sale.:) Thoughts opinions on this? Thanks guys.

An Edge CTS monitor. It's not a programmer, just gauges. No drilling or tapping into anything, it plugs in right under the dash.
Duraflap mud flaps. Hands down the best mud flaps I've ever bought. TDR members get a discount too.
Floor mats. If you live anywhere near salt or snow, stay away from the Weathertech mats. This is my fifth set of Weathertech mats and if they don't change for the better, it will be my last. Over the years and sets of their mats, their coverage and fit quality has severely declined.
If you frequently travel rougher roads, plan on replacing shocks not too long after truck purchase. Some here will argue, but the stock shocks are garbage.

These are all my opinions based on experience with almost the same truck you're purchasing. '14 3500 crew cab long bed 4x4

I suggest buying the stuff you want, that your truck currently doesn't have. Simple!

.......except an Oakley sticker, you need a big Oakley sticker.

DuraFlaps installed on my 2016 two weeks ago. I could not be more pleased with their product. Flaps are worth every cent. lon

Mods, I tinted the front door windows today and put little blind spot mirrors on durning the trip home from Colorado. Nothing other than 5th wheel hitch and installing bed boxes, with a replacement Park View Camera. Mud flaps and TDR emblem on the way. Under the hood, NO WAY! Snoking

Sprayed in liner, running boards, mud flaps, clear bra, hood protector, side moldings, tinted widows...

Forget the Pyro, not needed. The truck has several exhaust gas temperature measurements in its control systems already. Trick is to get the Edge CTS2 monitor that was already mentioned to read them.

How does one get a discount and how much is it?
Thanks

Tint, mud flaps, and fender flares for sure. I never liked the looks of mud flaps, but after having them on my Titan, i seen how useful they are for keep crap off the side of the truck. I highly recommend the Kicker speaker upgrades too. Also, replaced crappy halogen with HIDs. I have the projector head lights. Geno's fuel cap. I also installed the Carli upper and lower steering stabilizers and I'm happy with them. But you'll need a nitrogen bottle, gauges, and a charge kit. Otherwise, don't go with Carli, go with something else that doesn't use the nitrogen pressure adjustment to adjust the right hand pull.

If you do not do anything else get a set of Blind Spot Mirrors, like Snoking said. Other wise leave it stock. What trim package did you get? I know you want to put all kinds of modes on your new 2500. But I say leave it stock. I want to do all kinds of things to make my truck look cool, but you know I read an article in a magazine where they were talking about doing modes of all kinds to a brand spanking new truck. At the end of the article the writer said, Remember if GM, Ford, Chevrolet, Nissan, Toyota wanted the power plants modified they would make the modifications an option. They do not want you modifying the motor the trans the suspension they would offer it as an option where they can make the money off the after market parts. Just a thought. The only real modification I am going to do for sure is to replace the 32Gal Fuel Tank. But I am going to wait to get it done, several months so I can get used to all of the idiosyncrasies, of my new truck.

Can you prevent the dealers from "flashing" the truck's computer?. Seems like everytime they do it, mpg goes down...

Might ask his opinion on them again. Personally I leave my "antlers" up all the time. The spots work great that way.

My "custom" DuraFlap "LongHorn" mud flaps are really nice.

I worked with the blink spot mirrors in the down position. All the way out and mid up and down seems to help. The little mirrors helped on the way home from Colorado, however I do not look at them much anymore. SNOKING
