Ordered Truck 3/1. Estimated arrival 8-10 wks But came in 4/7 (Exactly 5 wks). Picked it up tonight and am really impressed for far. Fit and finish perfect, no vibe up to 75, quick solid steering, brakes awesome and better mpg than expected (17-18 Ov'Head @ 75 miles on the odo). I'm a 40 yr GM guy and so far I got a good feeling about this Dodge!!! (Knock on wood and yes I know it's a little early).

Question: Great, Great dealer and well known for their outstanding service (Unusual for Dodge I know).

They offered the std DC 100,000 mile Extended Warranty (Brings the 3/36 and 7/70 factory warranty up to 100k to match the CTD warranty all with a 100 deductible) for $1595 saying that it's 100 over the DC std cost of $2250. No sales tax on that warranty here in MN either. No pushing, just offered!

1. Is the extended warranty worth getting IYO? (My tendency says no).

2. How is this cost?

Comments ???

I say YES. I have the D/C 7 year, 100k 0 deduct, first day rental. It is totally worth it! I paid $2,200 for it. Some pay more, some pay less. It depends on the dealer. There is a big mark up. I will never own another new car or truck without it. Point in hand. . Wife just bought a Chrysler Sebring convertible. We had a few issues right at the beginning. Had we not had the extended warranty, we would be using another one of our cars during the down time. As it was, I drove off in a NEW Hemi Durango for a few days. The same went for my truck. It was in for the reflash and a few other items. 3 days I had a NEW GMC Yukon. 100% paid by Chrysler. The dealer even paid for the fuel! One break down after the 3/36 and it will pay for itself. The same warranty that I bought for the Cummins, was only $1500 for the Sebring. The choice is yours and there will be alot of pro's and con's on this thread. My vote is BUY IT! Also, if you purchace the one that qualifys, D/C will buy it back at the end if you don't use it. On all the warrantys, they will refund the unused amount should you sell your car or truck if it is still under warranty. MONEY IN THE BANK!

I say buy it, that is a great deal. I paid a little more than that for the 85k warranty. I gives you piece of mind, at least it does me. There is just WAY too much electronics on these new trucks. It gets harder and harder to diagnose problems, it can be done it just taked time, and time = $$$$$$$$$$$$

Seems like anthing electronic anymore is very expensive to fix or repair.

Gotta go against the flow

If you finance, what will you wind up paying in finance charges on $1595 over the next 5 yrs ? Put the money in a CD and draw interest. If something breaks outside of warranty, pay for it. If you still have the money at 100,000 miles use it to buy something really nice for the old girl, she deserves it. I'm betting you'll have most of the money.

HEY, the idea of putting the money into a cd is good... i have the 100k for my '03 ctd, around $1600, plus i did put the money into a cd type deal, ( it's true that i pay into it monthly), still, it has given peace of mind.

ERIC '03 SWB SRW SLT QC 6SPD 3:73 LImited SLIP STOCK 32k only had one major, truck was drifting right, they put in a new steering pump!

I get them because every one I've had (Ford plans on the 2 F-series I had, and a Chrysler plan on the 96 Ram) has more than paid for itself.

Example: say your AC evaporator craps out. The labor alone at dealer rates would approach $800, because the entire dash has to be removed. That's not covered after 3/36 unless you get an extended service contract. You'd also be on your own for all the power accessories like windows, locks, seats, and mirrors. One of the speakers went on the 96 Ram in 2002... covered. Suspension and steering components go bye-bye at 3/36 - blew the whole steering box on my 93 Ford - truck was physically unable to turn left... covered. TDR members complain about the ball joints all the time... they're covered under the DC AddedCare and higher service plans, as are the ABS components, calipers and pistons, all factory instrumentatation, and all the various computers.

My dealer didn't have to ask me on the 05, I let them know up front I wanted the 7/100.

Also, when i was offered my warranty i could get maintenace coupons for oil changes. And if i never used the warranty there was 100% refund, i say do it.

I guess I'll be the "no" vote. I also have similar to what is described above. First day free rental? Yes. A new Hemi Durango to use? Uh..... no. Try whatever used POS is on the lot - like a late 90s Caravan with a questionable transmission. AND, I have to bring the tank back full. Personally, between my 7/70 (which is going away starting with NY '06) and the Cummins 100K, I fell I am pretty well covered. I don't know what was going through my mind when I purchased it, but, IMO, it's not worth it.

I never have and never will buy one of those extended warranties. I've bought a lot of vehicles in my time and don't recall needing anything done before 100,000 that cost 2 grand. I have a couple salesmen in the family and they tell me those warranties are HUGE moneymakers for the dealer.

Wasted money IMO.

I haven't bought one for my Dodge, yet, but I did purchase one for my 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee. At 70,000 miles the transmission blew up and at 75,000 miles the rod bearings went out, probably due to the intake manifold gasket leaking and being replaced, twice. They said anitfreeze seeped into the oil. So, the extended warranty really paid off. The bozos had the Jeep for 3 months and I got pretty upset so bought a 2001 5. 3 auto GMC 1/2 ton and sold the Jeep when it got out of the shop. That ought to teach me not to get ticked off. What a gutless wonder that GMC was. Crappy ride and 14 mpg. Could barely pull it's own weight up the mountain. The Dodge changed all that:)

I hope Dodge's extended warrenties are better than they use to be. I had a 1995 Dodge 600, and it had transmission problems. Well I took it into the local Dodge Dealer (Jim Eyrp in Omaha, NE/One of THE WORST Dodge dealers in the world!), and they wouldn't do ANYTHING to it till it quit, well it quit while we were on vacation. Well that ended our vacation! I think the CD may be a better choice, but then again... ... ...

It is insurance,

By buying it you bet you can tear up the vehicle in that amount of time and the manf bets they build a vehicle that will require less repairs than you bet.

Tough call I have purcahsed on last three vehicles, I get a free rental truck through business connection program, and was not happy that I bought a $0 deduct then it didn't cover the parts because it was still under factory warranty and had $100 deduct.

I bought a 6/80,000 extended warranty for $2000, supposedly if I don't use it, after 6 years I get the two grand back, so I've got five years to go on that one. In retrospect I wouldn't do it again.

BRohloff: Welcome to the wonderful world of Dodge Cummins Turbo Diesel.

The extended warranty is a tough call. I have always opted out and been money ahead. My previous Dodge, a '96 1500, had 154,000 miles on it when I sold it. The only factory part that failed was the catalytic converter. It had an automatic transmission and I towed a TT.

I do not modify or abuse my vehicles. I maintain them as recommended or better. I have 16,000 on my CTD and it has been completely trouble free. If you follow the issues listed on this form, you will notice that many of the problems are posted by owners that have modified their trucks or used them for tasks they were not designed for.

I hope you have a long and happy life with your new truck.

The rentals come from Enterprise Rent a car. Nothing to do with the Dodge or Chrysler dealer. And yes, the warranty pays for it! Im living proof. I would say you bought the "other" warranty from the dealer. Not the same as the D/C max care warranty

Bank the money that the ex. contract cost. Then you'll have the funds plus a little interest. If the CTD is covered for 100k, what could cost the amount of the contract to repair? I guess if you lost 2 trans or a couple of differenials it would pay for itself. I vote NO

I bought the 7/70 bumper to bumper

Dodge warranty for about $850 with $100 de, I don't do allot of miles a year , about 10k for me $850 wasn't to hard to take if it was say 2k I would self insure, I feel lucky that we have a great small town dealer here.
