New truck Issue

Hello fellow TD members. I'm a new owner of the crew cab big horn ecodiesel. I waited from mid November to Jan 21 to take delivery. I love this truck but have had a nagging issue. Since the first day I drove it home, the cabin fills with a burning odor when I come to a stop. Of course the techs can't find anything wrong (no exhaust leaks) and now they are saying it's just the DPF regen cycle. Well, I have to throw the BS flag on that one since it would mean it's been in regen after the first 15 miles and every day since for the following 250 miles. So my question is, has anyone experienced any odor problems and if you have had yours long enough, how often do you expereince a regen cycle?

First off you can stop any odor from coming into the cab by turning the HVAC to recirc, or at least when you stop. Second the engine will continue to burn off the paint and clear, and any labels that might have been affixed to it for at least 1,000 miles. The harder you work it the faster that smell will go away. If it is in fact diesel exhaust gas you smell double check the flex pipe off the turbo on the passenger side rear of engine. Check with a mirror to see if you see any soot trail.
If it does go into regen and you come to a stop it will smell inside the cab, but the best way to describe that smell is burning charcoal lighter fluid. It is way different from exhaust or engine paint.

If you only have 250 miles on it I'd do nothing but drive it for another 1000 miles.

Thanks guys for the replies. I think the issue is resolved by removing every paper part tag from the underside of the truck. Like y'all said, I'll drive it for a few months and see.

Mine did same thing till I had about 1000 to 1500 miles on the truck. Funny thing for me is the last 12 years of parking 81 to 05 MB diesels in garage and have to open doors before starting due to smell and soot everywhere, the ECO diesel doesn't have that problem. I can not smell the exhaust even with garage door shut and now get truck started a few moments before hitting the open button in the truck.

I never did have the paint/label burning smell that some have mentioned when new. Likely one of my first drives was a long one and it was all taken care of in no time. I have 15,000 miles on now. Depending on use and driving style regen will happen every 150 - 300 miles, mine are usually in the 250 mile range if used on the highway as opposed to grocery getting. Normal regen seems to start when there's a soot mass of 65% in the DPF and if uninterrupted will continue to regen down to a soot mass of about 9 or 10%. Whole cycle takes about 10 or 15 minutes I recall but I don't really pay attention to it anymore. I've never had any DPF warnings on the EVIC to hit the highway, just the normal everyday ones that happen without noticing. I've never smelt a regen in this truck either. My 2011 Cummins I could always smell it at a stop light when it was regenerating the DPF.
