So, I finally broke down and bought a new 2500 shortbox. I called the local Les Schwabs to see about getting BFG 285's installed with a 2 inch leveler. He said that 285's are currently 4-6 weeks out and offered to give me a killer deal on the 315's.

My question is, will 315's be too big for just a 2 inch leveling kit? Will they even fit on the stock wheels? Is it true that the bigger tires are destroying ball joints? Do dealerships charge for the computer re-calibration? Finally, how big a fuel hit am I going to take?

Thanks in advance.

Shawn

Edited to correct 314 to 315. I have NO idea what I was thinking when I typed that.

You mean 315's? Some people rub and some dont... it's kind of a random thing. Mine with a level kit will rub at full turn going up a driveway. You might get a little rubbing at a little under full turn.

I'm with Clayton.

I see BFG 315's on most of the similar rigs I see around town.

I'd say DC is using the bigger tires as a scapegoat for the ball joint debacle.

I'm sure the mpg will decrease a bit. I put mine on right away so I have no comparision to the stock Michelins. Keep 'em inflated and carry on. Check around on price before you commit to your killer deal.

the 315/70's will fit with no spacer kit and no/very little rubbing on stock wheels. with the spacer lift, they shouldn't rub ever... i've got the 315's under mine with no lift... on stock wheels... no rubbing

Done

Well, this is what she looks like. I am very pleased.

Thanks for the advice. Glad I went with the 315's.

Very good looking rig. I would be interested in your opinion after a few thousand miles. I went with 285s but might be convinced to go with 315s next time. I don't have step bars yet tho' and it's already a climb for my wife and little girl to get in. 315s would make it an inch higher right?

thanks
