I recently purchased an 03 after trading in my 02. My question is: The throttle seems to hang up when shifting thru the gears. May be for a second or so, and a little longer at higher Rpm's. I have thought it was me not taking my foot all the way off the gas but it isn't. Is this normal or a characteristic of the different fuel system or do I maybe have a problem? Thanks

I think this is electronically controlled "decel" of engine RPM's for

emissions control... just like the gassers. I hated it too when I first

moved from my 01 to my 03. You'll get used to it as you drive.

Still miss the 01... sort of.

Haven't noticed it in the 04. 5 probably because the motor computer controls the trans. . Have you asked at the dealership??

You need to check your pedal there is a spring that hangs up in the back giving you full WOT. There was a thead in the past about a TDR member that had his hang up while pulling a 16000 lb trailer.

Ferguson,

If you've never driven a diesel with a manual shift transmission, my guess would be the motor is defueling and your not used to it. In a gasser, the throttle plates close during a shift helping to bring the R's down quckly before the next gear. In a diesel, the R's will "hang" a bit as the motor defuels ... ... ... . there are no throttle plates so the engine runs free until the fuel is burnt and evacuated.

I hope I'm making sense.

Sticky Throttle

RFerguson,

Get the problem checked out right away. My pedal didn't seem to come back as quickly as I thought it should. About a month after I got the truck the trottle cable snapped and it was nice enough to be in full acceleration.

When I had it towed in, the service tech said the line had a crimp in it, and it had broken.

I don't know if it's the same deal, but it's not worth the chance.

I thought all 24 valve engines and the 3rd gen in particular were drive by wire. My '97 had a cable and my '05. 5 isn't here yet so I don't know for sure. Am I missing something?
