I have a new 06 4#4 with a slight vibration/humming between 65-75 MPH that seems to be coming from the drivetrain. The truck is smooth as silk at any other speed. I've read a lot of posts on this subject and it seems to be a common problem with these trucks. It also sounds like it's difficult problem for a dealer to cure. Anything i should know before going to a dealer to get this fixed?

You should know the chances of the dealer being able to fix the problem are slim. How "slight" is "slight"?

My truck was so noisy at 70 MPH during the first few thousand miles that it almost hurt my ears to drive at that speed. Today, at 67k miles, I think it's pretty quiet (especially in warm weather). That either means it takes some time for things to break in, or I've gone partially deaf.

I prefer to think it's the former.

Thanks Ryan, The vibration/humming is not unbearable now so if things get better with time, that makes me feel better.

I appreciate the response.

I thought they cured that issue in the 05s??

My 04. 5 has the vibrations between 65-75mph... even with 100k on, a new front driveshaft, balanced rear driveshaft, and my hubs locked in... it still vibrates at those speeds.

I don't really think there is any one "fix" for the issue. I would start simple and hope for a worn ujoint.

MINE JUST STARTED AT 40,000 MILES AND ITS DRIVING ME CRAZY , I PUT IN NEW U-JOINTS , HAD THE TIRES ROAD FORCED BALANCED , CHANGE THE FLUID TO ROYAL PURPLE , TOOK OUT THE FRONT DRIVESHAFT , STILL CAN'T GET RID OF IT , DEALER KEEPS PUSHING ME OFF , I WANT TI FIXED !

Please visit www.carsondodge.com . They have a repair forum and are very knowledgable!! If you look at the forums at the top of the page there is a STICKY that deals with this very issue. It is explained what it it, what causes it, and it gives a list of fixes depending on what yours has... :)

I just noticed mine starts to vibrate, sounds like an interstate rumble strip, but less pronounced from 55-65. 52K on mine.

That's what mine sounded like when the joint on the rear axle started to sieze up... IMO, the only way to check the ujoints on the 3rd gens is to remove the shaft and manually flex the joint by hand (mine was so bad, I could not flex it with a pry bar)...
