well ive decided that after i buy my house the truck is next to go. it just needs to much and i need a truck that is a little more dependable. this truck was negleted for 127k and it shows. i will be buying and 01. 5-02 HO truck. i am gonna get one that has about 50k. this way i can treat it the way it should be. my plan is to install boost, pyro, and fp first off. then a fass system second. i think that covers the reliability part of it. i just need to know if im missing anything. are there any other problems that should be addressed before and money is spent on power. what is a fair price for a low milage truck. it will be fully equiped besides the leather electric seats. basicly the same truck i have be newer. TIA

gonna miss the 12ver though :{

The number one thing is a Fuel Pressure gauge (which I see you have listed). If that truck has been driven 50k on the factory LP, I will guarantee that it is shot and there might be potential damage to the injector pump. If the truck is stock, leave it that way so the injector pump (if dying) will be covered by warranty.

Things that will show ware after those many miles, and will be on the replacement list in the future on the 24v trucks:

1. MAP

2. IAT

3. Oil Pressure

4. APPS (longer down road)

5. Fuel Transfer pump (I see you plan to replace with FASS)

6. Injection pump

I doubt that these will need to be replaced soon, but these things are just about written on the wall as points of failure with 24v trucks (ignoring driveline components).

if i buy an 01 wont the warrenty be gone. is it good till 06 or does that depend on the build date. if thats the case an 02 would be that much better wouldnt it. also i thought the fass system and keeping the fuel pressure in check was supposed to prevent the injector pump from failing. i havent paid much attention to the 24v threads till now so please bear with me on this.

True, the FASS will keep the pressure in check, but if the stock pump is weak and has starved the injection pump, you could be in for trouble. I bought mine with 50K on it, and the lift pump was getting weak, so much for the dealer's "130 point" inspection!! I don't think it damaged the injector pump, I have put 30K on it since with no problems yet! And if you do get an 01, make sure it's an 01. 5, they have disc brakes on the rear, way better!!:D

well the local lithia dealers here are asking up to 30k for this truck so i dont think a dealer truck will be an option. ill have the fp checked before i buy that way i can tell if the injector pump has been starved. what about price. what should i expect to pay?

I have had pretty good luck with the VP holding up, I have bought for myself or another person 3 trucks all with 80-90K miles on them (the two in my sig and an 02 2500) one still had a good LP, one had a shot LP, and the 02 had a plugged filter and a shot LP... and lookin like a the 02 will need a VP44 (under warranty). I got my 99 and it had a dead LP... that was before I knew about the TDR, and drove the truck like that for 40K miles... replaced the LP and have gone another 30K, at 160K now... still no signs of probs. I beleive the warranty starts counting down on the date of first purchse, which can usually be determined using carfax, or you can call your favorite dodge dealer with the VIN and they will tell you what warranty is left on it.

A place to look for price comparison is eBay, I see little difference in service between an eBay dealer and a local dealer (my opinion)... I buy from licensed and bonded dealers only though. I have had good luck with two texas dealers in the D/FW area, and bad luck with one houston dealer, and I should have expected this based on their feedback, but $15K for an 02 2500 QC still under 100K warranty was too good to pass up.
