well i finally got my new truck home the date in cab plate says 9/91 it has an intercooler and a rotary pump i have tried searching on here for ways to turn the pump but i cant find anything ? im sure its there but every time i search for something i just get crap that has nothing to do with anything #@$%! any way i guess its a 91 it has about 300,000 miles on it and is beat up pretty bad bud it runs good and has a realy nice flat bed on it it wont move it has a getrag five speed i think it may be the clutch i am going to try and get it tore apart tomorrow and seee whats wrong with it . i feel pretty good about the deal in genral cuz i didnt have to out with any cash at all for the truck. another thing thats nicer about this truck than my 01 is that it has leaf springs in the front axle instead of that piece of **** trackbar setup wandering like a pig in **** what a joke #@$%! any way thanks in advance for any help :)

VE mods have been beat to death- ditch the washer, take a Dremmel to the fuel pin, or if you have a rich girlfirend, or you're Jonh Kerry, have HER buy you an Old Smoky pin. Governor spring AND adjusting the high idle speed. ok where and waht are these

SAndreasen,

Congrats on the truck!

Look in the 1st Gen forum under "FAQ" and there will be sticky threads there with the info you are looking for. If not, holler back and we'll try again.

Godspeed,
Trent

also found out why we werent moving#@$%! there was only about a cup of oil in the transmission the input shaft / gear and front bearing are melted into kind of glob of steel . hopefully standard transmission and gear has the parts i need to get it going thinking i will probly put a bearing and seal kit in it and run it till it dies again

Best oil

I think the "best" oil depends on your climate, intended use, etc. If you plan to tow heavy in the desert, the 5w30 may not be your best choice, as the oil will have a lot of heat build up. Maybe a 15w40 or 20w50 would be better suited. Same for an arctic climate- you may want a lighter oil for those cold winter mornings, though most synthetics flow very well in cold weather. I do some occasional towing, topping 20K, so I run 15w40 or close to that. Also, I think it is a good idea to run a regular oil for the first 500-1000 mi after a rebuild, then switch to the synthetic, as it gives everything a chance to seat together and the bearings will wear what they will wear. No reason to keep that junk in there fo r20-50K mi if you dont need to. And then again, the "break in" oil change my be unnecessary in a manual transmission.

well i will be towing around 25,000 and 30,000gvw and i was kind of leaning towards 15w40 as well who runs that with good results tia

cows is my lightest at just at 30 my heaviest was 14 ton big bales of hay at 37,000 gvw you can the picture of it in the photo gallery. you would be surprised how easy it is to load over 30,000 especialy with an empty weight of 12,000 to 14,000:rolleyes:

also would like to send an oil sample to cat on the engine but im not real sure if i dare run it long enuff to get the oil hot since i see that it also is half gallon low honestly people need to learn the value of good service a regular oil change or at least a refill would have saved the transmission but i guess its just easier to keep driving#@$%! #@$%!

well i told you all a lie the guy that had the truck before me had the transmission changed to the nv 4500 i finally got all the parts to finish the rebuild and got it stuffed back in yesterday morning about 430 am . truck runs real good wanna do some more fine tuning on the pump but i need to get a pyro before i do much more .
