So, I am thinking of selling my 2005 CTD for a new truck (usually sell every three to four years... always the itch at that time. ). I drove all the big three and have to say they all drive nice w/ better features than my current '05.

Are the '08/'09 Dodge's fixed or figured out most of the bugs w/ the emission crap surrounding the 6. 7's? I know the turbo was one issue and DPF getting clogged even when you run it hard to clear it out. Did searches for past problem, but looking for present issues and any fixes to date.

I can get a good deal on any of the big three for what I'm looking for. Just have not pulled the trigger yet. :-laf I know they all (Dodge, Ford, GM) have thier own/different issues w/ the emissions... .....

For the most part, yes the bugs have been worked out of them. I'm sure there will be some others that may start to crop up once a majority of '07. 5 and '08's get more miles on them but that's the nature of the beast. Personally, I'm waiting for the '09 before I pull that trigger. I like the interior better of what I have seen of them.

21,000 on 07. 5, 6. 7 6spd. Tops out at 108, idles forever, and runs code just fine. No problems. Shimmy, fixed with warranty recall. Pulls 11,000 toy hauler fine. enjoy the engine brake.

I am in the same boat. I have a 2005 and Have the itch for another new toy. But I am waiting on the Dodge 2010 redo of the heavy duty line. I want the real crew cab with a long bed. I am also curious what happens in the next couple of years with the auto makers themselves. Will we still be able to buy a Dodge in 2010?

So, the problems w/ the turbo crapping out on some/most of these newer Dodges are caused by the EGR and caking the turbo, right? So the first fix is drill and the clean the turbo and plug it. Then if the code comes back they replace the turbo. Is the replacement turbo different or putting the same style back on other than it comes w/ a hole pre drilled for cleaning?

I do like the exhuast brake and obvious the more peppy of the 6. 7 than my 5. 9 w/o modding a fire breather. Also the interior is a big improvement.

I will have something new within next couple of weeks. The deals are too good to pass up. Especially jumping up to the Laramie package on the Quad's.

The numbers of new 6. 7 trucks with problems have been very, very few. Those who have had problems may disagree because their problems have understandably been very important to them but considering all the new trucks in use, even new trucks in use by TDR members, the problems have been few and minor.

There have been zero major problems such as failed engine blocks, cylinder heads, crankshafts, camshafts, injection pumps, injectors, transmissions, etc.

Some of the early '07. 5s had a few sooted particulate filters and a few sooted turbos but software revisions and some cleaning seem to have cured them.

There have been even fewer reported problems with '08s.

Cab and chassis versions have been about 99% troublefree. EB, an oilfield hotshotter and TDR member, has rolled up the most miles. His truck is probably approaching 180,000 miles now. He has had a couple of minor problems. I'm sure EB will tell you about them if you PM him or search for his older posts.

Mine has just under 30,000 miles. It set a code that stayed on for ten days and a 4,000 mile trip then cleared itself and has not come back.

When you are considering brands remember that Dodge pickups are already 2010 compliant. I'm not certain but don't think Ferd and GM are yet so they may still have their problems ahead of them.

Chrysler LLC has sent out directives to contact their DM's before doing any warranty work on a modified 6. 7,this includes suspension mods. If you drive stock trucks jump on the 08. They are great driving trucks

If so inclined, you could eat off of the inside of my neighbor's '07. 5 exhaust. Clean machine. In contrast,I was following a 6. 4 Ford last week and heat waves were coming off of its exhaust pipe! It was running clean though and super quiet.

Zero problems with my sig truck. 19mpg hwy/14-15 in town, pulls my 5,000# camper like its not even there at 11mpg, and never a single CEL or hiccup in 10,000 miles. I would buy another one in a heartbeat.

Friend of mine has a 2008 Super Duty F350 with the 6. 4 Powerstroke. He has 5K on it, no problems so far but his fuel mileage is in the toilet. He's lucky to see 12 on the hwy and 10 around town.

I also know a couple folks with the new Chevys. They are happy with their trucks, report no major problems, and they are getting about 16-18mpg.

It's hard to go wrong, but I wouldn't trade my 6. 7 for any of them.
