I was looking at a new Dodge 3500 Quad cab Cummins 5 speed loaded with leather and everything sticker was 40,500. They told me 35,000 was the best they could do, is that a good number? Also don't be offended but it was a dog. Top gear on the highway I was expecting more power. It has 4. 10 gears and drove nice. Should I look for an H. O. or get this one and put in a box?

run the numbers on a site like www.kbb.com. roughly figure the msrp to be 9-10% over invoice. using that rule, they're at or below invoice. prob not bad price. if you want more towing versatility, the trend on the tdr is to HO's, i think, with the six speed transmission. i don't know if Bill k offers updates on the five speed or not. the five speed has the same engine as the auto, i think.

If you will be pulling a lot of weight,Id wait for the six speed, the tighter ratios, and stronger engine are the cats meow for towing, however if most of your runnning is empty, and you like to accelerate quick without shifting a lot of times, then the 5 speed will do you just fine. Mod wise,if warranty is a concern,go with an EZ,and a set of stage 2 or 3 injectors, you will have tons of power, maybe to much for the clutch. (go southbend)If warranty isnt a concern,go with the Edge comp, and injectors if you need more power after that. Form my experiences in buying vehicles,I always regret later buying a truck that isnt equipped the way I wanted it,because it was there,or I saved a grand, your laying down 35 big ones,if you want the six speed, wahts a nother grand at that point?Gety what you want, these trucks arent rare anymore, you can find the truck you want 99% of the time on the net or locally. Good luck.

If you're going to spend that much money, get the 6 speed. I had a 5 speed for 6 months and traded it for a 6 speed + a few more goodies. I really like the 4. 10's for towing, and it doesn't seem to hurt the milage all that much. I just filled up today and at 2000 miles, I got 18. 3 combined city and highway.

If you go to the Melton sales web site that gitchesum previously mentioned you will see that they will sell you a 02 3500 6sp HO, 4x6 with everything but leather for $33,800. Sounds like it might be worth the ride. If you need that much power. Other wise I would offer the other dealer $34,000 and refer them to Melton sales web site and tel;l them if they want you to you can go buy one there. Also if you join the Farm bureau or have a business license, you can get another $500 to $1000 knocked off by the dealer.

I had 00' and hated the 5-speed, traded it in for a 01. 5 HO 6-speed and love it. It will not feel much better-more power- while not towing in the begining BUT after some miles of heavy towing it will feel alot more powerful! The 6-speed is awsome for towing. :D

Try out the following web site: www.carpoint.com

You're able to choose any make or model, choose all your options and it will tell you the MSRP and the Invoice prices side by side.

Good luck, -Ken
