I went to look at the new 2001 CTDs and also checked out the GMC Duramax with Allison trany.

I've always favored our Dodges, but the new Duramax and Allison sound real good!

Mighty tempting.

The 2002 Dodges are UUUUGLY!!!

What a discision!:D

be careful about buying anything the first year out. i soulsearched in june, and bought the cummins/dodge. i, too was tempted by the maxi and allison. more by the allison than by the maxi. i'd try to find straight info on problems with the maxi and allison, if i were you. i couldn't be happier with my new (7. 5k now) goat. :D :D :D

Ugly?

Your opinion of the new Ram's looks reminds me of a conversation I had with a young female rider on my transit bus in Flagstaff some years ago. I asked why she was voting for Bill Clinton, and she answered, "because he's cute". She traded looks for value and substance. Sounds like you are doing the same.

Seems a lot of people had the same opinion of the '94's. History proved them wrong. Appearance is always subjective, but to call the '02 ram ugly is to call slick Willy a good president. Have you seen an SLT plus? Gorgeous!

ugly

The RAM (2002) 2500 and 3500 still look the same as 94 and up. Plus they have the proven Cummins in them. new body style and new ISB in the 2003. Actually there is over 50000 new engines already in use in Europe, from what I hear they should be very similar. For what it's worth.

Yea, after I read the thread on "Dura Dud" I changed my mind. I know Allison makes a good trans but the way they have it programed to the Dura appears to be a major problem.

Even the ugliest

Dodge aint that ugly, Clinton. Yuk!!

You guys can bash the new Ram all you want but it is a much improved truck throughout. Took one for a ride today while they did my clock spring recall. It is a very nice riding truck. That split fold down rear seat with the steel shelf is the best feature. (Not all of them have that. ) I wish the doors were the suicide type though.

After reading all the horror stories about the Duramax, I think I'll stick to CTD.

I was talking to my friends at Cummins about the computer interface between the engine and transmission and they originally had the same problems with Cummins(big rigs) when the first came out. Reprogramed the computers correctly and no more problems. You would think after all these years GM engineers could figure things out. Typical left had not knowing what the right hand is doing. Allison is great transmission if they get it coupled up right.

Also the guys at Cummins say the new "reversed" engine is going to be a nightmare to work on with gear train etc in the rear. Supposedly reversed for noise control.

Everything has to be "politically correct".

Got my new turbo, injectors and pump installed and it runs like a new truck. The power is now what it used to be! Lots of gitty up go! Dont have to drop to second anymore pulling the old fiver up the mountain. :D
