Any of you guys or gals know of a good aftermarket radio that fits the factory size opening? My factory unit is already showing wear on the buttons can't tell what the numbers are on the presets any more, plus I would just like a new radio.

Thanks

check this out

check out Crutchfield.com. good place, good service, great selection. also include detailed instructions specific to your vehilce

for install, and a good tech help line.

Because the Factory Stereo is what they call 1½ Din all 1 Din and 1½ Din stereo's will fit, I have replaced the stock stereo with a 1 Din size stereo and the dash kit I installed to make it fit has a little pocket underneath the stereo that is very handy... My remote fits perfectly...

For you guys that have just replaced the deck, and have infinity sound systems, how long have the factory speakers lasted?

Looking a changing my cummins right now. Looking at the Apline 1. 5 din unit. Looks nice.

Problem in my 96 gasser was the fact that the infinity systems have the amps built into the speakers. The high power deck ended up driving the inputs to the speakers with too much power. They only lasted a few months and them I was replacing them too.

Installation was done with the provided $15 harness. The harmness plugs into the deck and into the factory wiring. Makes it just drop in. However it runs those 22wx4 ( or more 45w on the alpine ) into those amps built into the speakers. Blew them out in short time.

So the question is about 1. 5din decks that are designed to plug into factory infinity systems. Any good choices here?

Darrell, I'll second (or third :D)the recommendation for Crutchfield. They charge about 10-20% more than the discount places, but what you get for the extra is well worth it in a lot of cases. They have a database that gives exact dimensions on factory dash openings and depths and factory speaker locations for just about every vehicle out there. They can tell you exactly what will fit and to top that, will send you detailed instructions with pictures showing you how to change stereo/speakers in your vehicle. There customer service is first rate, and everyone I've ever spoken to in tech support has been "on the ball" and very knowledgable. Over that past 15 years, I've given them more money than I care to remember :D :D, but have never regretted it!!!

Oops, almost forgot---they will send you a wiring harness adapter that plugs into the factory stereo connectors to supply power and speaker connections - no splicing into the factory harness. Also they will provide an adaptor to fit your new stereo into the factory opening and if you buy speakers will give you wiring harness adapters for these as well. OK, I'm done ;)

I have also used Crutchfield with great satisfaction. This time though I bought my din and 1/2 remote Pioneer from Autovibes.com. Would have used Crutchfield again, but Autovibes had a sale on the Pioneer and I save nearly a hundred bucks.

Thanks for all the great advice guys, went to the cruchfield web site and had them send me a catolog. Can,t hardly wait these factory stereo sucks.

If you ain't bomben the motor, you got to bomb the tunes.
