Looks like head will be back in 2-3 weeks. Made a test pipe to set blow off valves. Need to make plugs to check for boost leaks. Add 02 radiator and I should be done. I am buying a new goose neck car hauler. I'd like to make a trip to Missouri to pick up something before the weather gets bad.

I took my blowoff valves out, plugged the holes, since they werent sensitive enough to help. . If i set them to crack at 65psi, they wouldnt dump anything more than a small amount of air, until past 80psi. i had to set them to start leaking at 40psi in order for them to dump any air by 70psi. id like to have a real wastegate on the big turbo to regulate total boost.

You're the second person to tell me that. That's why I made the fixture. I can screw each one into the cylinder and regulate the pressure to see where and how they open. Usually the nicer I make the fixture, the more futile the project. I'll know saturday. I don't think overboosting is going to be a big problem. I think I have set a record in the most money for least horsepower department. But the darn thing sure runs good for a first gen truck. Should be reliable, once it quits breaking down. I can't take credit for that line but I like it anyway. I'd like to dyno soon. I've got a goal of reaching 1/2 of Jim Fulmers hp. If I don't do it soon, the darn guy is going to hit 900hp and I'll have to spend another 15k to build a 451 hp motor.

I'd like to use a stock headgasket if I can. It pulls harder on the bottom with the higher compression. But I have a . 010 over and a . 020 over also. I doubt that I will have any more problems. Running 50 lbs of boost, anything should work. And yes I was kidding, I have no plans to build another motor . I need to buy an iron worker and a new plasma cutter for a project. No more big dollar items that don't make money.

"Ron, if I'm not mistaken, the newest Cummins gaskets (OEM on the 3rd gens) are cutting edge- MLS (Multi-layered steel) gaskets and will perfectly retrofit to all older CTDs. "

Wait a minute... I thought that the 3rd Gen blocks were different enough so that you couldn't bolt an ISB or a 6BT head to 'em?

Has anyone roasted a head gasket in a 3rd Gen yet?

I'm not to sure about that... ... I might be giving you a run for your money, LOL. (Updates later)

My Haisley Studs are torqued to 125. I've only hit 25-30PSI on my single, but so far, so good.

I'm soon to have J. R. 's twins, and I hope to not follow in your path... .

I think head work is ranked right up there with transmission work... Just no fun to do...

Hohn,

Put a 3rd gen gasket on your 24v and see if it works.

They are different, but can be used if modified slightly.

The head is here. I drove up to the Fed-Ex freight terminal and picked it up. All shiney and clean. I have a feeling that my luck is changing with this truck. I've been nursing a leaking head gasket for almost a month and it is going to hold untill tuesday when the head gets replaced. At this point I must say that if I had a chance to start over on this project I would change alot of things. About the only smart move I did was to buy most of my stuff from Piers. I couldn't be more pleased with how this was handled. Piers, Harry, and Mark, I thank you for answering all my questions and doing your best to keep me from totally screwing this thing up. Also a thank you to Morganna(spelling) for all the help with the Fed-Ex ground Snooty lady. She was really pleasant when I picked up the head today.

Just a note here, the new gasket for the 3rd gen trucks is about . 005 thicker than the . 010 over gasket I got from PDR. I tried a +. 020 and a +. 010 and lost alot of power on the bottom where I want it the most. I was told the ported head does not effect the bottom , but the gasket does. I have a broken head stud on this thing now. Probably my fault for not buying new studs each time I install the head. This is the 3rd time the head has been put on with these studs, and they probably aren't made to be re-used like that. I won't be complaining about this problem on this thread anymore. I think 58 posts about it is quite enough.
