TAG Testing on Twins

Just replaced the old K&N filter that I had in my Scotty II with his new UNI filter. This filter was designed just for the Scotty Air Systems by UNI. WOW does it fit better than my old filter. The breather tube connection has bigger rubber ring to help seal the end of the Scotty box better.

The information that I got from Scotty is that the testing has shown 50* or more of egt reduction. . Now as you know... all of our trucks are different and results will be different. .

Sounds like a commercial ;) ;) ;)

Here is the information that I copied off the website over on the DTR. . It is an oiled foam filter

The NEW Scotty Ram Air II! How can you take the finest Air Intake System for The Dodge Ram Diesel Truck and make it better? Well Scotty did it!

He combined his already successful system with even better filtering capabilities by teaming up with UNI filters and designing a foam filter for the Scotty Air System.

UNI is known through out the world for supplying the finest filters for use in a dirty environment, Motorcycle racing champions have used them for years.

The filter is a dual stage, reinforced interior designed to take all you can throw at it. The outside cover removes easily for cleaning, and we include a free cleaning kit with each filter we sell.

Thanks Scotty.

Yes, I saw that on their site too.

I'm wondering if people are cleaning & oiling them just as effectively, but with different materials.

thanks

I'm convinced that the Scotty2 is the best option for the vast majority of us (edit: those who don't mind oiled elements). I haven't heard of any filtration issues (oil analysis reports show low silicon), and the flow is good. Plus-- no other system does a better job of feeding the turbo some nice, cool, dense air.

Uni Filter

I currently have a scotty II with the afe filter whats it cost to upgrade to new and improved uni filter? :--)

Forrest,

I use PJ1 filter oil. I run a UNI filter on my dirtbike, and have had for years, and have always ran PJ1 oil. Its red to match the uni filter too. After working on dirtbikes forever, I learned another trick. I use hand cleaner to clean the filter. It works great, is fast, and not messy at all. Another setup I have used it NOTOIL oil/cleaner. It works great, but is kind of pricey.

Does everybody else's scotty/UNI say Uni on the filter??? Mine doesnt. I wish it did, though.

Thanks Jeff.

I'll look around for PJ1.

I wonder if PJ1 & K&N Oil Filter spray is equivalent ...

Thanks for the tip on the hand cleaner, makes sense. Hand cleaner is a grease cutter. I've been wanting to pick up a gallon jug of hand cleaner with the pump ... here we go. :)

One other reccomendation... the orange hand cleaner doesnt work as well. the stuff I've found that works best is some cheap stuff at autozone. It is white, and has no pumice in it. The pumice in the orange stuff is sometimes hard to get out of the element.

I dont think the K&N stuff is the same, but could be wrong. The PJ1 stuff has an excellent spray patteren too. It makes coating it real easy.

FWIW, oil both the inner and outer element. Some people say only to oil either the inner or outer, but I've seen a few newer CRF450's that have only had one element oiled come in that are full of grit.

Oh yeah, the PJ1 stuff dries pretty quick, so in my case (I have the clear Scotty) it makes inserting the uni into the scotty easy not to get oil all over the clear.

Here's about 6 months on the UNI. One off-road excursion ... solo, not following anyone.

I've been checking the blades on the turbo every oil change. This is the 1st time I've ever seen blackish oilish film on there, no matter what filter I've used ... wonder why :-laf .

Yes ... that's a Moth on the UNI ... ... the Scotty II is a great Moth Monica.

I'm surprised as well about how fast the uni gets black!! and really black!! The uni's on my bikes never do that.

my problem is elm tree seeds. It sucks em' from the cowl. and small children and kittens. ;)

wonder why your UNI says UNI and mine doesnt??? Wonder if scotty has someone else make uni equivalents??

I kinda wish my scotty was louder now. Hopefully a new turbo will cure that. ;)

Do you have the clear box?

Uhhhh no I don't have knock offs of the UNI.

That is one dark filter. I have two single layer filters with well over 20K on them in my shaker that have seen a full winter, rain and lots of dust and they do not come close to looking like that. I wonder what is doing that?

Nope, no clear box. I kind of wish I did ... would have cleaned that dougan earlier.

btw ... while the UNI is out waiting for a good douching, the K&N is back in. Boy is it louder. Not bad, especially with the cowl dam, but you can sure notice a difference.
