Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Developing problem?

Well the saga continues. :{ :{ They charged me 15 hours for this ( some mistakes).

A question please; the book (9-170) says that The 24-valve overhead system incorporates rocker arms that are designed to allow fuel injector service without removing the rocker arms and pedestals. He removed them to replace the injectors and caused the problem only to fix it as well. Nice, make a problem and then be the hero and fix it. Wonder how many hours were on the bill to fix this problem. The other place didn't remove them and swap them around !!!!!!

This was supposed to be in bold.

He did remove them and had problems with starting. The W/O says:Found that there was a bad backfire coming out of the intake. There is a misadjusted valve or there is a burned valve, removed valve cover and checked valve adjustment found that cylinder #1 exhaust was over tight and holding the valve open. Also found that cylinders #4 and #5 intake valves are also over tight and not releasing. Readjusted all valves and retested. OK. No more back fire from intake, finished reassembling unit. road tested and seems to be ok at this time.

I think that he swapped 3 of them and had to change them because of this.

The engine is still tinny sounding, ( due to insufficient fueling ) but now has a full time flutter to it. The gearshift shakes alot and I can still hear the engine surging at idle. It runs out of fueling at about 1900 rpm. The APPS isn't doing its fuel advancement for the engine. Going down hill (8% or so) it surges very noticeably. My boost is still very slow in coming on and only to 14 lbs when it gets there. ( These engines might be good if they actually work!!!!!!)

Another question : Should he have got the APPS working or should he have known if the APPS isn't working???????

Does anyone have a very technical ideas please.

To start with I would want my money refunded for the valve screw up. There is no need to touch them on a 2nd gen 24v for injector replacement. I still can't figure how they came up with 15 hrs labor even if they had charged you for the valve screw up.

I would find a better tech to fix the remaining troubles.

I agree with Bob!!! Ok, so they put on a new vp-44 and new injectors. What injectors- stock or modded, and who makes them. If he messed up that bad with the valves, who is to say that he didn't set or adjust them right either?? 14lbs of boost means something is WRONG. You def. have a boost leak somewhere. I would never take your truck back to where you had it worked on. Find somewhere else to fix the mess someone created for you. Good luck! These trucks do run sweet, so dont loose hope just yet!!

now runs worse!!!

Sorry haven't had much sleep lately.

The injectors were of the 300 type from Edmonton AB. The vp44 has the Fedex brain. The APPS isn't working the way everyone elses does. The engine revs and screams like a Jimmy engine but no more power, again. I just need someone to find out where the electrical arc is and then my engine will run like everyones else's does.

Should the mechanic have been able to tell that the APPS isn't working????? Should he have fixed it?????

Did the mechanic check to ensure the proper key was installed in the pump? Your being a 99 model the mechanic should/does need to hookup a scnnaer and diagnose the issue, he should be able to see a bad APPS. Normally an injector and VP change should run around $375-$500 US from a good mechanic.
