Archived new vp trouble

hey guys i just had a new vp installed, when i go to start i need to crank it over a little so the fass comes on or else it will not start there is no visable leaks whats going on??? sitting in garage.

Did you bleed the fuel lines?

If not, crack open injectors 1, 3, and 4.
Bump the starter and let the FASS cycle about 3 times.

Start cranking like hell until you get fuel out of one of the cylinders above. As fuel starts comming out, stop cranking and tighten up that injector fuel line.

Start cranking again, when you get fuel out the next fuel line, tighten it up.

Repeat for the 3rd line. Once you get fuel out of these three lines, it should start.

As Rich said, you need to bleed those lines. If you have someone to help you, go ahead and bleed them while you have someone in the truck turning it over.

Any update from JRunkal? Did he get that truck started?

Note that the original poster did not ask how to get the truck to start after the VP44 replacement, he asked why it is difficult to start... once it started once, the lines are purged, something else in FASS-plumbing or wiring is at issue, not high pressure lines. I apologize for not having a suggestion, but a clarification was in order and maybe someone will recognize the true symptom.

Possibly an air leak that's allowing loss of prime. Hence the cranking to get it going. I'd start with the inlet line to the VP and work back. Assuming that the hard start was not present prior to new VP install. More than likely if no hard start prior to new VP then there's probably something thats allowing air in but no fule leaking out. Ah, check the oil to make sure it's not too high and doesn't smell of fuel. Doubtful but . . neve know. Did you possibly have any injector work done before or during VP work?
