Just replaced the vp on our 01, also replaced the lp w/ a fass 95gallon. Got it started abd ran great for about 30 miles then when I mashed on it. the motor acted like it was starving for fuel. I tried it a second time and it died, and had to be towed home. I have a large amount of fuel at the pump inlet ( no pressure gauge right now ) . motor cranks but very little fuel comes out of the lines. The pump was purchased from one of the suppliers here on TDR. They contacted me and they were helpful on the phone. I'm not mad at the supplier, they said that they would help me out. My problem is either the pump was not a good rebuild or something electrical. BTW i have a power max 3 hooked to the pump wire. They told me the scotch lock could be causing too much resistance due to cutting too many wire strands, i dunno. I want to give this supplier the bennifit of the doubt and make sure to test the electrical before I yank it off and tell them I need another one. What I need to know is what wires do what on the vp pump so I can be assured the problem is internal. My 12v was acting up this morning so I can't have 2 trucks down, any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance

how many miles did you run it before running the power box? You need to give it a good 100 miles to get all the air out of the lines.

and no I did not sell the pump, just trying to help. :)

I would install a fuel pressure gauge making sure you have adequate inlet pressure. Just because it's new doesn't mean their can't be anything wrong with it.

And I didn't sell him the pump either... .

If it's a "hot rod pump" you should have broken it in a min of 250 miles before mashing it. If you tapped the pump wire you may have fried the electronics.

YUP - I had wanted, and planned a dyno run on my truck as part of our trip down to the Sacramento area - but having just installed a new VP-44 myself days before the trip, decided I had better let the internal parts seat in a bit before really pushing it to the limit...

I did turn the box on just to make sure it was working. I won't next time. Reason I did so is it was much easier to hook up the wire to the pump on the bench. I forgot to list the odometer pulled up 1963. and my code reader just read error. My buddy's truck also reads 1963 on the odometer and cuts out at high throttle.
